We've got the Northeast, Illinois, Minnesota, the West Coast to prevent that from happening. They won't be able to LEGALLY fuck with the constitution with 66 senate seats, although they have done a good job of doing so illegally.

It's my belief that they are trying for a 1 party state, and certainly the noise that much of the neocons make indicate that that is indeed their goal. They have soemwhere around 2/3 of the state legislatures now, along with the governorships. If they get that expect a few "revisions" to the Constitution.

Democrats swept legislative chambers in places like Colorado and Montana this year, even though Kerry lost in those states. The deep south still has a lot of democratic state legislatures and the northeast has some that are so democratic that they can over-ride almost every veto that the governor issues. I think of the partisan controlled chambers, it's 48/47 Republicans, or something very close to that number. Republican sweeps of the state legislatures could happen, but not while they hold so much power in Washington. State legislature sweeps come from a backlash effect and the backlash can't be in your favor when you're in power.

Got not one reply. I'll just say it much more briefly here. The 2006 election will be the election that convinces me, as an American, if all is lost for many years to come or if we do have any chance left at all at democracy.

They have 55 senators now. Don't you think they can bump that number up to 60 considering the fact that they own the voting machines and the vote counters? If election reform has not taken place any where in any way by 2006, we're doomed. It will be right wing one party rule.

25. Don't be placing all your hopes in the filibuster basket

The Filibuster is a tool to be used sparingly.

If you think the Democrats are going to be filibustering everything that comes down the pike, think again. On damn near any given issue I'll bet you there are five or more Democrats who are willing to break ranks for some pork barrel insertions.

And if it starts to get in the way of judicial nominations, the republicans will simply change the rules.

Expecting anything different will leave you very disappointed. We're already horribly screwed. There are two things that "unscrew" us now.

1) rise of a viable opposition party before 2008 (maybe the Democrats)
or
2) dissolution of the United States, whether through internal strife or foreign invasion -- and that could just end up screwing us all over again, depending on who's doing what

The second alternative is a sucky one, and the first is iffy. We're about as screwed as screwed gets.
