Is my 85 year old mom an indication of a political sea change?
Yesterday my 85 year old mom who is a flag waving sometime Repug said out of the blue that she didn't like Bush anymore. She dislikes Rumsfeld even more.
I wonder if this is an indication of what an important swing vote is feeling now that the Iraqi occupation is coming apart? Rove better keep his eye on the ball because after the speech tonight, things are going to get dicey.
:kick:

1. My 82-year-old dyed-in-the-wool Republican Dad
says, "This dub-yem-dee thing is a bunch of crap. I'm sure as hell not voting for Bush next year."

Go Dad!

2. Seniors have a LOT to lose if Shrubby gets elected (for the first time)
next year. They are among those getting hit the hardest. Plus they have to watch everything this country stands for and everything the middle class has worked disappearing in a puff of smoke, with only a wealthy few left with money, jobs, and civil rights.

3. Seniors have the perspective that youngsters don't
They remember how hard it was to fight for the 8-hour day, civil rights, etc.

Us folks under 50 have had it easy.

4. This is from a San Franciscogate aritcle on Dean!
"Dean supporter Howard Vicini of San Francisco -- who helped start a group called Seniors for Dean -- said he has been deluged with support from around the country, and now intends to mobilize first for Oct. 7, then for the coming presidential primaries."

"We're going to get seniors to the polls (on Oct. 7) as part of the Dean campaign," he said. "They worked with us, immediately. It's been amazing"

6. My conservative uncle
has expressed new thoughts on voting for Howard Dean.

I almost lost it when I heard him say that. It was such a major change on his part and it came out of nowhere!

He hasn't said that he dislikes Bush, but to get him to even consider that action means that Bush is in major trouble.

8. My mom is 87 and has been a Repub all her life. Up until a year or so
ago...and she's a pretty sharp old gal I must admit. (I'm grateful for the genes ;-))

She despises Shrub and his gang of criminal fellow travelers. In all honesty I have to admit it is largely due to her losing a couple hundred thousand on Enron stocks, but whatever it takes is ok with me I guess. :D

Why does she dislike Bush all of the sudden? Besides the fact the GOP can name nothing Bush has accomplished.

12. I hope that in coming days I can report the same thing
about my fundy parents but I am afraid they tune out everything except Rush, Faux News, so they won't believe anything that should cause them to reconsider their positions (including other family members).

15. My fundamentalist Christian mother....
has no doubts that Bush is leading this country out of darkness...

She also thinks Rush is an honest Christian, and reads Hannity, because thats what Americans should be...

She still thinks I'm going to go to hell cause I'm not a republican...when she changes, I'll let you know...

16. Chat at the dentist's office
The other day I talked with another patient for a bit while waiting for the dentist, about the health insurance mess and other things. This 50-ish professional woman volunteered that she certainly wouldn't vote for Bush and was sorry she had last time. I mentioned Dean, and she said she had heard him and thought he made a lot of sense. This isn't the first time we've heard sentiments like this. Between the former voters he is losing and the ones who will be coming out for the first time, Bush is in trouble and it can't happen soon enough.

18. My 83-year-old WWII vet Dad has voted Republican his entire life...
...and cannot stand the Bushies. He voted for Gore the last time around and was completely incensed when the Supreme Court voted the way that they did. You should hear him talk about the economy, our foreign policy, etc.!

He's become quite the revolutionary...and he makes me prouder with each passing day.
