1. you've been busy this afternoon...
No, I'm joking, how did that happen? Did Kucinich link the site from his page or something? Thats incredible.

3. No--- That poll has been going for a week
I've watched it grow from about 1100 votes to what you see now and the growth has been steady, constant.

I tabled for Kucinich yesterday and also this morning.

The interest in him is TREMENDOUS. Out of all the candidate tables, ours was the most visited. That observation came from vendors and by-standers not affiliated with us or with Kucinich.

Two very rewarding days!

Don't underestimate Kucinich or the extent to which people are tired of Centrism.

Peace

4. No he didnt
none of the Kucinich people I know were aware of this. More significantly, I have watched it since about 8000 respondents. It has not varied more than .6%. In my opinion, a VERY accurate and representative sampling. Mosley-Braun overtook Bush, and she would make a fine VP candidate.

30. You apparently have no idea what representative
sampling is. A Internet poll is by its very nature unrepresentative and biased.

Consult a stat 101 text book. Look under the Literary Digest debacle of 1936 for an example of why this poll can in no way be a realist or accurate sampling of public opinion. According to the Literary Digest's biased sample, Landon would beat Roosevelt in a landslide when the opposite happened.

28. Well, word was spread to some
degree that he was doing well, among supporters, and when I voted he was as high as 47% I think (it was a few days back). I nearly fell over when his numbers just kept climbing. I know because I kept checking it every so foten to see what his percentage was.

That's a weird poll. Mosely-Braun beats George Bush (3.8 to 3.5%?)

What gives?

7. Online polls are a joke
DK polls about 1% in scientific polls.

For all the enthusiasm about him here he has almost
no chance of going beyond New Hampshire.

He's a good guy but he has the same chance of becoming
President that I have.

8. those with samples under 1000 you mean?
scientific polling? more like commercial pay per poll results. Very critical of you to notice this wasnt a poll paid for by any given interest. Flawed, right? badly flawed. like kyoto, et al?

10. Scientific Polling Is Based On Inferential Statististics
It is based on the same scientific principles we use for DNA...

Geneticists don't have dna samples for all four billion human beings but they can make inferences based on a fraction of them...

I'm too tired to find and post a link but a more enterprising DUer can post a link to a discussion of inferential and descriptive statistics.

12. more samples equals greater accuracy or not?
sure we would all love to implement controls that would shape the results to our liking, but the INEVITABLE dismissals are based in something besides science. Sorry you are too tired to persist.
The results are astonishing, and something to see.

20. Here's A Link On Inferential Statistics
No-Greater samples don't necessarily lead to greater accuracy....

With the proper controls I only need to sample 1000 registered voters to find out what all registered voters are thinking

27. It's Not Democrat Since Birth
it's social scientists, statisticians, and geneticists who use inferential statistics ro make assumptions about human behavior and genetic testing ....

Once again, I'm not putting down DK .I'm just questioning the validity of a-n-y voluntary poll.....

9. I respectfully disagree birdman
Kucinich will be strongest in caucus states, where selecting a candidate involves a more significant time commitment than pulling a lever/punching a chad/filling in a circle in a voting booth.

Kucinich's campaign in Iowa is growing by leaps and bounds. He had the largest supporting turnout in Des Moines' labor day parade.

Most of the people who get polled are 1) middle-class; 2) home at "normal" hours of the day (mainly evenings); 3) are registered voters/have previously voted for president.

Kucinich's supporters usually don't fit the above demographic. Most of the are working-class (oftentimes union members), and often have to work more than one job to support themselves and/or their families. Many of them are also newly registered voters who have not previously voted in presidential elections. Most of these folks are "under the radar" to the polls, the CW, the media, and especially the "wired" community.

11. Actually DK is a dagger aimed right at the heart of Howard Dean
If DK pulls enough progressive support from Dean in IA he's going to deliver the state to Gephardt....

The irony is delicious....

21. see what I like about DK tinana
is he used his influence in the house to get people to vote against the IWR and also although a congressman he spoke at anti Iraq war rally. His aunnocement as soon of the war began went like this.
"This is a sad day for America, the world community, and the people of Iraq. Tonight, I hope and pray for the safe return of our troops and the end to this unjustified war."
"President Bush has launched an unprovoked attack against another country. Iraq does not pose an imminent threat to the United States or any of its neighboring nations. Iraq was not responsible for the terrorist attacks of September 11. Tonight, President Bush has commanded U.S. forces to go to war in violation of American traditions of defensive war that have lasted since George Washington. This war is wrong; it violates the Constitution and international law."

that DK, to me, is kinda like the Byrd of the House. I don't think he is at the same level of statesmanship but a voice of conscience none the less.

We could use more of that in Congress.

29. Not defensive, always friendly, definitely serious
Howard Dean can attempt to obtain the "anti-war vote", but that vote belongs to Kucinich. Along with the Labor vote, the health care vote, the jobs vote, the justice vote (who do you trust to look after the BFEE? How important is that to you?) and just about any issue, this side of the unforgiving pro-choice recriminators. With SUBSTANTIAL corporate and AIPAC backing, Howard Dean will never see another war he doesnt like.

35. Here's My Take
I will support the Democratic nominee for president, whomever he or she is.....

Voting Democratic is a matter of religion with me....

Howard Dean is the cleverest of politicians. He has been able to successfully highlight what is a small difference between him and the other mainstream contenders, i.e. Gep, Kerry, Edwards, and Lieberman by opposing Iraq War 2.

To the best of my knowledge all of the aforementioned candidates* and Howard Dean supported every American military/foreign policy action of the past fifteen years which include:

Iraq War 1

The sanction regime or oil for food program

The no fly zone over parts of Iraq

The Clinton/Blair policy of intermittent bombing of Iraq

The operations in Kosovo and Bosnia

The Afghanistan War

But Howard Dean has opposed Iraq War 2 and has used this distinction as a hammer to clobber the other "mainstream" candidates.

I give him high fives, massive kudos, and major league props for his big time cleverness....

*Kerry opposed Iraq War 1 and I put Joe Lieberman in the mainstream... If folks want to say Joe's not a mainstream Dem that's fine... I just put him in the mainstream for purposes of this exercise...

14. I like Kucinich
He has done the most work and actually has policies you can debate as opposed to 'what if's' and 'positions' like the frontrunners.
It is almost a cliche to say that people don't like politics because their all the same and it's just style and attack...
He ain't--he's earnest and best I can tell, honest
He punched a clock in his life and so he gets my vote

I hope this poll makes other dems take a second look--esp Dean supporters.

24.  Great! "He punched a clock in his life and so he gets my vote."

Dennis not only punched a clock but he looked around and learned. He saw that people worked hard, very hard, but they couldn't get ahead so he realized something was wrong with the system. I'm beginning to think that there's no substitute for that kind of experience.
