If you could be assured either candidate running could defeat Bush....?
Edited on Sun Sep-07-03 07:11 PM by kentuck
Who would you think could do the most good for our nation? Actually, I think it is conceivable that either of our Democratic candidates could defeat Bush, but we have been programmed to believe that one with a certain political viewpoint may be more "electable" than any of the others.

But if you could be assured that either of them could defeat Bush, who would be the best person to sit in the White House? Who would do the most good for the most people? What would be your reasons for voting for one person over the other, if this were the case?

1. Dean because of his experience as a governor.
Experience with being an administrator helps more then anything I believe.

2. Dean's experience as a governor doesn't seem to have helped him make up...
...his mind about where he stands on the issues, has it?

3. He has been fairly consistant...yet realizes one needs to be
flexible. Things change...you get new information, or something happens that changes a picture and you have to be able to change with it.

7. "flexibility"?

Name any bit of new information that came up which justified his shift in position.

He is changing position on policies he should have fully considered during his time as governor of Vermont.

Dean does one thing consistently -- he criticizes everything about Bush, and he's angry. However, when it comes to real policy, he's back and forth, trying to balance what he thinks he needs to do to maintain the progressive, grass roots base, and what he thinks he needs to do to win the general elections (and it looks like he might think that not startling Wall St might be part of the latter strategy, even if it's not good for America).

4. Clark...because I believe we need to mend fences
with the other nations. Clark has experience building a consensus and knows how to form alliances. I think all the Democrats have an economic plan I could support.

If not Clark, then Kerry. He has gravitas that carries to the international community.

Before I start the latest flame war, I like Dean, Kerry, and Clark. Maybe Edwards. I don't want to engage in the latest DU candidate bashing.

5. It's not just this country, it's the world.
We needed a president who could hit the ground running in 2001 and we need someone who can hit the ground running and be prepared for a mountain climb in 2005.

6. Kucinich
I have noticed that some DU members throw the term "electable" around as if it were a magical charm and that just chanting that word will get their possible candidate elected. They seem to toss that word out and no facts to support the claim.

I also have noticed that some of these newer members seem to have views that do not strike me as very progressive. They will make claims about how progressive their guy is--but if you do a search on their member names they seem to have an almost moderate Republican view of things.

This may be my last round of support for the Dems if the Trojan horse theory turns out to work and be true.

11. I thought 'either' implied two. We have nine, so I think it
would be 'any of'.

12. Still Clark. He has the understanding and the knowledge to effect
the changes that are needed. The courage too.

13. Kucinich is by far the best person this country could have as president.
I am actually quite surprised to see that he barely has any support here. I always thought that the Edwards/Kerry/Dean supporters were only supporting them because they didn't think Kucinich was electable.

Oh well. I learned something new today.

14. If any of them
could be guaranteed to win, I would actually pick Kucinich. He is braver than any of them and a true democrat. But I think it will be Howard Dean to win this time.
