Fuck you, CNN
Oh my God, there has not been a whore-fest like this in my memory. Hagel: "Well, we don't need to look back on the mistakes that have been made. Let's look forward." Aaron Piece-Of-Shit Brown: "The Iraqi people get to listen to a President tonight without being worried about getting killed for disagreeing."

Oh. Man. Just getting started here. I HATE this network. Worthless.

8. Wait a mo', people who don't remember their mistakes repeat them
Or something to that effect.

We NEED to look back at Bush's* mistakes. There are oodles of them, but we'll get through them. We need to.

I mean, look at the Nazi movement.

Look at the 70s oil crisis.

We haven't exactly looked back and it's costing us dearly. Dunno what to say about Reagan/Bush 1/Clinton, but Bush 2 is proof that they are unbalanced, fascist, are repeating things that have happened in the past that were bad, and so on.

Fucking pukes.

9. Let's not bicker and argue about who killed who
Edited on Sun Sep-07-03 07:45 PM by DrBB
This seems to be the line. Novakula--he whose credibility is as firmly rooted as the fake eyebrows that are known to occasionally fall off during his show--delivered himself of the opinion that 'mistakes were made' but it's only the Democrats--those scoundrels!--who are so low as to want to make political points about it.

Um, gee, Novak, I kinda thought that's what politcs were for, ya know? Figuring out whose policies work, whose don't, and electing the ones that work and kicking out the ones who fail, kinda thing? Kinda hard to do if you're disbarred from discussing, like, the factual record 'n' stuff. "Factual record"--that's something journalists are supposed to have some interest in, I think? "Let's not dwell on the mistakes of the past!" sez the Party of Personal Responsibility. And we're talking about how many hundreds of billions of dollars worth of mistake yet to be paid for, hm? Not to mention how many thousands of lives, American, Iraqi, military and otherwise? Strikes me as something worth dwelling on, at least for a minute or two.

on edit:

FATHER
(to his SON)
Shut up!

(to LAUNCELOT)
You only killed the bride's father - that's all -

LAUNCELOT
Oh dear, I didn't really mean to...

FATHER
Didn't mean to? You put your sword right through his head!

LAUNCELOT
Gosh - Is he all right?

FATHER
You even kicked the bride in the chest! It's going to cost me a fortune!

LAUNCELOT
I can explain ... I was in the forest ... riding north from Camelot ... when I got this note.

FATHER
Camelot? Are you from Camelot?

LAUNCELOT
I am, sir. I am a Knight of King Arthur.

FATHER
'Mm ... very nice castle, Camelot ... very good pig country.....

29. It's not CNN in particular. All the US media are basically the same. CNN
is not even the worst of them, by a long shot.

The behavior is dictated by the nature of oligopoly capitalism. Anytime an entire vital industry is dominated by just a few giant competitors, the result will ALWAYS be overwhelming corruption and betrayal of the public interest. There are no exceptions to this rule.

Unregulated capitalism does not work. Oligarchical or monopoly capitalism does not work. That is the real lesson demonstrated by the disgusting spectacle you describe.

73. Sorry to hear about your fate, Z.
Living long ago in Chicago, I had the good fortune of reading the late Mike Royko several times a week. He then was the main columnist for the Chicago Sun-Times until his paper was purchased by Rupert. Royko pegged the little fellah "The Alien" and said he is a guy who bought his citizenship by giving generously to Pruneface Reagan and the GOP. Royko also warned us of what has come to pass — a media governed by the unelected alien and his contemporary apologists for the pluto-kleptocracy.

Zhade: Please don't worry if you have to work for the so-and-so. There probably are many, many good people who work for The Alien. You can tell Who's Who by letting them talk a bit before you open up to them. Remember the good guys and gals and build a network within the machine. Then one day, Rupert will find his entire staff knows who and what he really is. And his media empire will actually fulfill the most important function in a Democracy — inform the public of the news and events of the day in a truthful way.

BTW: Royko quit the Sun-Times. He quit a decades-long promise never to work for The Chicago Tribune (WGN), rather than work for The Alien. Royko knew how to prioritize.

PS: A long time ago, I once was a proud member of the Fifth Estate. While I enjoyed some aspects of the work, my reputation soon became that of "Conspiracy Theorist." If I can give any advice to the new initiates it's: "Keep your wug shut." It really is the most important job in a Democracy, the only business named in the US Constitution.

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Your work will speed the day your countrymen appreciate your sacrifice! Good luck, Zhade.

35. Yep- in my opinion worse than Fox
because they put up the pretense of being even handed, when in actuality about 80% of their material (much of which passes as "news") is basically Republican spin. Worse, they purposefully aim this type coverage at Americans, in order to influence public policy.

If you watch CNN when you're abroad, you'll immediately notice that it's a much different and animal. It's much more objective, less deceitful and it doesn't conceal facts deemed "innapropriate" for American consumption.

39. I think you spoke too soon
On Larry King after the debate, the panel absolutely trashed Bush! It was incredible! A reporter from Newsweek who is in Iraq raked the administration over the coals, as did Amanpour and even Judith Miller. It wasn't pretty! In addition, Bob Graham added his terse comments. This was an anti-Bush free for all.

All of this set the few Repugs to squealing "unfair!"... Chris Shays and Kyl were outnumbered and outflanked and they both complained about it.

So don't throw CNN too many brickbats. I doubt that the other networks were as fair and balanced.

The Whoremedia need to be called what they are... until they change their spots. But I fear that is impossible in these days of megacorp media conglomerates.

CNN is one of the chief culprits in the colour coded fear delivery game. And however much they balance their fear mongering... it is that that they have to stop before I for one will be giving them any slack.... Watch for a terror alert from Asscroft to back up GWB's speech... and watch for CNN to swallow it hook, line and sinker.

they were as disgusting as always. Paula's face was lighted up with zealous joy because she was going to interview Bush Sr. at the Kennebunk Cult Compound today.

Then Larry King came on and the five reporters were asking actual real questions, criticizing Bush and actually dealing with reality! It was a shock. Even Judith Martin was. I was wondering if she is trying to get her credibility back.

They're the most trusted name in news, Will. Just kidding-I hate 'em too. Aaron and Paula and the whole crew. My Dad was a news junkie- a columnist and reporter for many years, we had half a dozen newspapers on the kitchen table every weekend when I was a kid- from all over. And the evening news was honestly reported by people of integrity. I think what has happened to us is heartbreaking and I think I'm glad my Dad's not here to see it. I'm not even sure when it started- has it been gradually happening and just accelerated the last couple of years? Or has it happened so fast I never saw it coming? Information from a free press is like air and water to a free society- without it we are vulnerable to much worse that 9/11.

54. He was probably referring to
a village with five huts and a brand new Honda generator. Four of the huts now have power as long as the gasoline lasts. Ain't 'Murrika great??

(ps- the Honda generator was trucked in by Halliburton and cost a mere $500,000.00)

50. WILL PITT ...
I watched the rerun of the pre-speech just because of this thread. One of the funniest things I saw was when Paula was going to John King for his vacuous, vapid piece and she said, "John, we know that the President will ask for $87 billion, but everyone wants to know the TONE of the speech."

I nearly shit. $87 billion and "everyone" is concerned about what TONE he will take?

It is hard to believe sometimes.

53. They've been intimidated by accusations they're left of center. They
need lots of e-mails pointing out they often toady to power instead of practicing journalism.

I give them credit for Amanpour and Robertson.

Nick Robertson said tonight about the speech that Iraqis will not like hearing that they are part of the war on terror, because they know they did not have a terrorist problem until the American war brought the terrorists in.

57. Biden is showing signs of being a mole/troll for the Pub Masters
I suspect he got bought. No true Dem would applaud that speech.

69. I did hear John King use the word "sober" twice in referring to
the speech and I though he emphasized it like he was trying to send a message. Did anyone else hear this?

I also heard another pundit, I believe it was David Gergen, use that word last night about the speech.

Do you suppose they know something?
