'Radiation-Proof' RVs to Launch Soon in U.S.

Two private U.S. companies have designs on building the first luxury recreational vehicle that could withstand nuclear radiation.

Parliament Coach Corp., a privately held company in Clearwater, Florida, which converts Prevost buses into high-end RVs, has partnered with Homeland Defense Vehicles to offer consumers a luxury motor coach that can protect occupants against nuclear radiation from dirty bombs as well as biological and chemical attacks.

The idea is to offer the option on the pricey vehicles to consumers worried about terror attacks, officials for both companies said Tuesday.

nuclear holocausts tend to leave huge EMP spheres all over, what makes them think that their car is going to work in such areas? is the RV more simplistic than an old Model T Ford?

stupid. it can withstand nuclear fallout, eh. it can drive right up to the aftermath of a nuclear strike and then shut down, trapped in an area being bathed in deadly radiation until they: starve to death, overheat, or suffocate... so stupid.

with those buzz words, Radiation proof and launch, I thought the RV that were going to be talked about were Re-entry vehicles as in nuclear warheads. I was curious what was up with radiation proof nukes?

12. Psychological....

Bomb shelters and air raid drills were used for propaganda not
functionality. They helped with the generation of fear and hysteria here and gave people her a false sense of security while sending the enmy the message that we have defenses in place.

What message does this send? The fear mongering continues but this time with the twist that you have to be a VP at Halliburton to be able to afford the rolling bomb shelter.

16. Depends on the type of radiation.

A few sheets of paper are enough to stop alpha particles; so is unbroken skin. Several millimeters of plexiglass can stop low-energy beta. Gamma & neutrons are another matter, but I don't remember enough about the subject other than to say that I don't think an RV could be shielded enough to stop these.

18. This is funny....

Let me guess, its been rated to protect from alpha (He nuclei) and beta (electrons) radiation. This is ridiculous, this RV will be no more radiation proof, beyond filtering air, than my own car, and its a convertable. The radiation most likely to KILL you is gamma radiation, and you need several FEET worth of lead or some other heavy dense solid between you and the source of radiation to be effective against a nuclear blast. This is a fucking joke, reminds me of those radiation suits they are selling that I saw on the History Channel that were only good for blocking alpha radiation, as if your own skin doesn't already protect you from it.
