Speaker to students: Stripping can be lucrative
http://www.cnn.com/2005/EDUCATION/01/14/students.stripping.ap/index.html

The principal of a Palo Alto middle school may not invite a popular speaker back to an annual career day after he told girls they could earn a good living as strippers.

Management consultant William Fried told eighth-graders at Jane Lathrop Stanford Middle School on Tuesday that stripping and exotic dancing can pay $250,000 or more per year, depending on their bust size.

"It's sick, but it's true," Fried said in an interview later. "The truth of the matter is you can earn a tremendous amount of money as an exotic dancer, if that's your desire."

wouldn't you think that the principal would ask the speaker what he was going to say or maybe review his notes?

1. Somehow, the fact that what he said is true
is considered irrelevant....

2. the kids can find that "truth" in the classified ads
the stripper thing seems like just a cheap trick to spice up his "management consultant" pap. Hopefully the kids are savvy enough to see through this guy's hokum.

3. My hubby's friend's idea of career women ...
just joking. We tease him about it all the time (his friend, that is), as being reflective of his general attitude towards feminist ideas, so-to-speak. He'll be glad to know that we are orienting young women in the right direction, instead of worrying about silly little PhD programs and all.

4. He actually made a good point.
You can earn money in a lot of sleazy ways, but money alone doesn't bring satisfaction. But, money is not the only reward from work. It's important for kids to think about what they want in life beyond money.

6. How much did Madonna make last year?
And how does she explain her SEX book to her daughter?
Lourdes simply hangs her head in shame
whenever anyone says to her "yo mama."
