Poll question: Max Cleland for VP, Good idea?

Max Cleland is a kick-ass Vietnam vet who served his country bravely and I think he would make a hell of a VP pick for whoever the nominee is. What do you think?

4. I had the same thought of Max Cleland for V.P.

I think it would be great. Cleland had his seat taken by that smarmy Saxby Chambliss who assailed Cleland's patriotism. Cleland is a flashpoint for a lot of pissed of democrats. He is also very, very smart.

5. You know, I've always been a big Max Cleland fan

even tho he's been a fairly conservative Dem (by my stds).

But he took a job the other day, or was appointed to some position, and I can't for the life of me remember the details, but it caused me to raise my eyebrows and be pretty unhappy with him.

6. Some financial posistion, banking or something along those lines

The dems suggested him for it, he wanted to continue in public service, and since it is laregely an non-politcal posistion it semmed like a good way he could remain in public service.

9. 9/11 Commission? or Ex-Im Bank?

I guess he's giving up his seat on the 9/11 Commission in order to take the post at the Ex-Im Bank. Strange considering that he was one of the few people who seemed to really be doing his job on the 9/11 Commission.

7. I love Max but

I think that is too military of a ticket. I would love to see him as Secretary of Veteran Affairs. My first pick for that job. If not I want to see him back in the Senate.

8. I can see a Kerry/ Cleland ticket but I don't know how well Max

would mesh with another candidate.

to balance North vs South and add a strong military background to Dean.

12. Interesting But Can't Get Past the Fact that He Lost

Is there any chance of GA going Democratic if he's on the ticket? I think the Dems should make their VP a favorite son from some big state like Florida or Ohio. They're going to need the electoral votes. Graham, at this point, would be my pick (only because people in Florida seem to like him).

assailed him for not being patriotic enough and not doing enough to defend the country.

13. All active GOP

members of Congress put together haven't lost the use of 3 limbs in wartime. Last one I can think of was Bob Dole, and he's retired. McCain can't raise his arms above his head as a result of wartime torture, but that's not the same thing.

14. I give McCain a lot of props

for his war service, and Chuck Hagel too. I don't discriminate along party lines when it comes to war service, but Hagel and McCain are definitely heroes. Chuck has the background to challenge Bush on Iraq.

15. McCain is a real hero

He was offered a chance to go home a few months after his capture because his father was an admiral. He refused to go home before the other men.
He refused and spent 5 more years in the prison camp in the worst conditions.
That is real heroism--not deserting your comrrades in even the worst situations.
