Moses parts the Red Sea...was that a Tsunami?

Many don't realize that just before a tsunami hits, the sea appears to vanish or 'part', and last month thousands ran up to the shore to see the sea missing, only to be swept away.

What if that happened at the Dead Sea? Moses and his group saw the ocean dryed up and made a run for it to escape Pharoh and his troops.
The troops give chase, and are swept away by a giant wave.

1. Could be. Bible story books always show the water raised up

as massive walls on either side of the Israelites, but I am sure that is just the artists' depiction.

There was a special on TV last night that mentioned the connection between Moses and tsunami. I don't remember which sea it was but the experts say it could have been a tsunami that Moses experienced.

9. I've always thought this was what happened

I guess I must have learned about tsunamis sucking the water back a long time ago. There's a Chinese story about this as well. A man swallows the sea for a short time, and people run around picking up fish and shells from the empty seabed. A little boy won't come back when the man gestures to him, and he's drowned when the man has to let the sea back out. My mom told me that was a metaphor for a tsunami a long time ago.

I had that in a book when I was younger. Wow yeah that really makes sense as being a Tsunami. I never thought of it that way.

There is no archeological evidence that shows that the Egyptians EVER had slaves from the 12 tribes that made up Israel.

I mean, the story is cool and all...but, cannot at this point be read literally.

A tsunami hit *just as* they were being chased and needed the sea to part? That would be quite a miraculous coincidence, if I do say so myself. If I knew for sure that this story is true (even if it was a tsunami), I'd be absolutely convinced that the Judeo-Christian God is the true one.

14. Sea of Reeds' tide did so regularly.

All you have to do is shoot the scene BACKWARDS through the "drama" filter. Moses & Company cross the Sea of Reeds at a time when the tide was very shallow, perhaps ankle-high in that area. Later, their persuers arrive on the scene, and rather than return empty-handed, a number of the troops attempt to wade out into the water, but drown in the attempt.

Now add drama, flare, and the insistance that some sort of miracle took place. Also, accelerate the timeline. Really, most old stories are every bit as inaccurate (compared to the actual events) as new stories. "Inspired by true events!" and so forth.
