As one of our most valued allies in the effort to protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, we need your help like never before. Drilling proponents have made opening this spectacular place to oil and gas development one of their top priorities in the New Year. In fact, plans to avoid public debate and sneak Arctic drilling provisions into the federal budget are already being made.

For this reason, members of Congress need to hear from Americans who believe the Refuge is too wild to waste. They need to know that drilling in this special place is not the answer to America's energy needs. This is where you come in!

We cannot save the Arctic Refuge alone. 1. Okay, I'm totally inviting flame here...

...but I'm one of the few dems I know who actually supports LIMITED oil exploration and drilling in ANWAR.

I'm not convinced the ecosystem there is so delicate that strictly regulated exploration and drilling cannot be sustained without disastrous consequences. I think we need to reduce our dependence on Middle-Eastern Oil, and I'm sorry, I think this is a legitimate way to do it.

That being said, I don't think this administration is competent to manage or regulate it. They have a track record of environmental mismanagement and corrupt business practices (no bid contracts, insider bidding, patronage, cronyism) that absolutely disqualifies them from regulating ANWAR exploration.

2. Not trying to flame you, but I think there are so many things we

could have done to reduce our dependence on Middle-Eastern Oil, such as mileage standards for SUVs, etc. that I think drilling in the ANWR should be way way low on the list.

4. Even if you're not convince of the risk to the ecosystem...

...the sneaking around ought to tell you something. If this is legitimate, then it should be able to stand the light of day. A backdoor effort to smuggle it in is just plain wrong.

The permafrost is melting up there...things are already too darned delicate, and the amount of oil we might (stressing MIGHT) see out of it is too little and too late to warrant gambling on the damage to the environment.

5. Even if drilling there wouldn't damage the ecosystem...

The MAXIMUM amount of oil there will be used up, in the US alone, in MONTHS, I forget how many, at CURRENT, not even future consumption levels. Its simply not worth the expense.

Interior Department says that ANWR has about 9 billion barrels of oil, maybe, and the The U.S. uses about 6.6 billion barrels per year. So a year and a third worth, thats about it.
