Just a few months ago the idea of a new Cincinnati talk radio format with the one-two punch of Jerry Springer and Al Franken would have seemed like some twisted fantasy.
It comes true Monday when Clear Channel, which owns eight stations here, drops the oldies format on WSAI-AM (1530) and launches a 24/7 liberal and progressive talk format.
Darryl Parks, operations manager for Clear Channel's four AM stations... is picking and choosing what he considers to be the best progressive talk being offered. Most, but not all, of the programming comes from Air America, the liberal talk network that launched last April. The station will feature its morning show with Mark Maron and Mark Riley, political satirist Al Franken and veteran south Florida radio host Randi Rhodes. Its afternoon drive will feature Ed Schultz, the fastest growing talk show in the country of any political persuasion.
The only locally originated show will be from Jerry Springer.
