OK, team: Let's email Krugman, & beg him to mention Meacher's article

in his next column. Krugman is the only top-ranking US media person with enough guts & integrity to mention Meacher. If he writes a column about the Meacher piece in Saturday's Guardian, it will become NEWS in the US. Otherwise, the US blackout on this will continue.

Right now, if you go to the NYT website and search the paper for "Meacher," there is exactly ONE mention of him -- it's stuffed into ONE sentence at the bottom of an obscure Sunday article on a different subject.

Dear Prof Krugman,

You doubtless are aware of the Sept 6 piece in the Guardian by former Labour MP & Blair's Minister of Environment Michael Meacher. The piece is titled "This War on Terrorism is Bogus," on the Net at:

The US media, including the NY Times, is trying to black out mention of this tremendously important story. Right now a search of the NYT for "Meacher" shows only ONE SENTENCE of reference. It's hidden at the bottom of an obscure inside-page Reuters article on a different subject.

If you could write a column reviewing the significance of the Meacher piece & bringing it to the attention of the American public, I feel that the US media would not be able to continue the blackout on what a man of Meacher's stature has publicly written. This would doubtless play a positive role in helping to inform the US public of crucial facts, & enhancing the possibility of bringing the Bush cabal to justice.

I have been following your column in the New York Times for the last few years with great admiration and wish to join several others who have emailed you to encourage you to nudge into the consciousness of the mainstream media the following article:

The article, titled "This war on terrorism is bogus," is written by Michael Meacher, who had been until recently a rather high level official in Tony Blair's cabinet. If you read the article, you'll see he makes some extraordinarily serious charges against the Bush administration. The very fact that someone who has occupied such a high office has levelled these charges is in itself newsworthy. You have been a fearless critic of this administration, raising issues that have somehow escaped mention in much of the rest of the media; that's why I bring this to your attention, hoping you can give it some much needed airing.

Thanks for your time -- and for your tireless efforts at correcting the dangerous course of the present government.
