Kerry Cuts Into Dean's Lead in N.H. Poll; Democrats Divided Over Who Would Be Stronger Vs. Bush

BOSTON Sept. 8 —
While Howard Dean maintains a double-digit lead, albeit smaller, over John Kerry in the latest New Hampshire poll, likely Democratic primary voters are closely divided over which of the two leading candidates would be the strongest against President Bush.

Dean, the former Vermont governor, had 38 percent support to Kerry's 26 percent in the poll by The Boston Globe/WBZ-TV released Sunday. A Zogby International survey last month showed Dean ahead of the Massachusetts senator by 21 points.

keep a 20 plus lead over Kerry for a long time.

The race will be very competitive until the end in NH, I think.

2. Here's the important part

You compare polls to the same type polls given earlier rather than by comparing it to a different poll that uses different methods to achieve their numbers. The only numbers that are important to see if there's a drop will be the next Zogby poll and not one by the BG/WBZ.

I wish this poll showed him up by 21 points too, but you really can't compare different polls.

3. Dean Has Double Digit Lead in NH

I never really believed the Zogby Poll, it showed too large a shift from prior polls. Zogby seems to produce more erratic results than some of the other pollsters.

Dean had 38%. In the Zogby, Kerry had 17%. He's gained, but he has not cut into Dean's support, ergo, you're post title is inaccurate.

To be a dick for a second... I like Dean - especially what he has brought to the process this time around - but I'm biased towards Kerry. Seeing the "Kerry is finished" threads around the time of the first Zogby poll was mildly irritating.

and I'm afraid it is very common in DU general discussion.

Whenever a new poll comes out there are always those who say it's over for so and so.

8. Kerry running ads on Boston TV

Kerry began running ads after his re-announcement tour. Dean had been running TV ads a bit earlier. I expect it will get closer.

Kerry does an interesting thing at the end of his ad, saying something like, "I'm John Kerry and I authorized this message!" The message having cited the loss of 3.1 million jobs and called for George W. Bush to be laid-off. It was recorded in Boston at Fanuei Hall last week. I don't know if he's the first or only candidate doing this, but I think all of the Democrats should.
