I was working and living in the immediate LAX area at the time. They shutdown portions of Airport Blvd and Imperial Hwy for some time. Local LEOs said "Air Force One is nearby. It stayed that way for 2+ hours. Local media supported that explanation the next day.

IMO, a politicians autobiography is not a credible cite to me...they all lie, (though the results vary). Snopes not withstanding, it was one hell of a traffic mess, and I was stuck in it.

Your first post was not bad (somebody else do it for you?) but the second is peppered with errors: shutdown in this sense should be shut down (2 words); you've omitted the close quotation marks after the word nearby; politicians should have an apostrophe (politician's); there should be no comma after lie; notwithstanding is one word, not two.

I work right by a major highway and we basically couldn't leave work until he had gone to the one-hour fundraiser and then got back to the airport for his flight outta dodge. So, if the FAA says the extra 10 minutes didn't cause delays, it was probably true. It was just the fact that security is tight and closes so many roads, onramps and access streets when a dignitary is in town. If you can call Cheney a dignitary, anyway.

Getting a haircut and shutting down the airport and highways around it are two different things...

When Bill Clinton came to Kansas City (I don't know which year offhand) and spoke in Independence (just east of KC), the freeway going to Kansas City International (I-29) was shut down for some time from Kansas City to the airport, awaiting his motorcade traveling from his speech to Air Force 1. I believe this was standard procedure. I know because my wife and I were planning on having dinner at Weston, a small town north of the airport. We could not take I-29 and had to drive backroads to Weston. Every on-ramp to I-29 had a police car or a highway patrol car and officers blocking entrance to the freeway.

So you need to differentiate between being caught in traffic due to standard procedure of the US Secret Service and blaming your inconvenience on a f*cking lie like the Right-Wing's fabrication of a over-priced haircut!

9/1/2002 - Richfield, Ohio. Nowhere near an airport. Traffic tied up all around the small town almost the entire day - George W. Bush in town for a fundraiser - invitation only. Traffic stopped not only on local roads but I-77 and the turnpike. Security reasons. 2 hours seems reasonable compared to that.

Clinton 90s - here's a fun one. Then-governor George Voinovich (R) was upset because he was in Cleveland and needed to get to Columbus (Ohio). Columbus is a two-hour drive from Cleveland - and this would not have been rush hour. GV was so in a hurry that he ordered his pilot to violate the FEDERAL GUIDELINES that restrict airspace around AF1. Even emergency flights are likely to be diverted. GV just HAD to take off from the same airport, which was conveniently located RIGHT NEXT TO I-71, which goes directly to Columbus. After he was fined, GV tried to use the taxpayers' money (read: OUR MONEY) to pay off his fine. The pilot nearly lost his license due to GV's partisan tactics.

Oh, by the way, George Voinovich, mayor of Cleveland at the time, never complained about George H. W. Bush tying up the airport and traffic in Cleveland during GHWB's visit in 1989. Nor did he mention any problems he had about GWB's multiple visits to Ohio. Guess he was too busy bitching about Kerry's visits.

From what I've learned it did in fact happen, however, the point is it was a typical media beat up as I said in my original post. But..it did (emphasize did) happen. In other words, Clinton got some fancy hair cutter on board Air Force One, payed hundreds of dollars for it, it "held up" the plane (technically speaking) for (only) ten minutes and this probably did cost some money for plane costs etc (Clinton didn't say what the costs were which is interesting). I also never said that other people or planes were held up (which they weren't) As I said, I didn't have a problem and couldn't believe myself the fuss that was made over it.
