4. Dems have no confidence
Nearly two-thirds (63%) of the likely Democratic primary voters said it is somewhat or very likely that President Bush will be re-elected in November 2004, regardless of how they intend to vote.

Of course there couldn't be someone who isn't a candidate who would almost instantly flip that number, would there?

</sarcasm>

10. Not really
I don't think it matters who we run. If the candidate we nominate motivates his base then he will win. Period.

I'm not so sure Gore could do that. He had his chance to run. If he had jumped in already I would have supported him. But he didn't, because he didn't think he could win.

And now that it's clear a LOT of people could win, who needs him?

13. Those numbers (63%) were taken when Bush was in the high 50s, low 60s.
Now that numbers have him at 45%, they're going to change their mind.

14. Of course Democrats think that.
What the hell do you expect? For the last 2 years, they've seen Bush's astronomical popularity ratings and given up hope. As more and more Democrats start to see poll results like the original post showed, more and more Democrats will see this election as winnable.

16. Yes. Most people don't watch the polls like we do.
Most people just repeatedly hear that he is a very popular president.

Most people, if they read any news at all, read USAToday on a daily basis (which makes Bush lokk downright statesman-like).

When word of sub-50 poll numbers becoming the CV, most Dems will begin to think bush is beatable. I myself have had great doubts until recently.

5. I tried to get tickets to that game at Sun Devil Stadium
but the cheapest were upper endzone seats which were just over $700 dollars. :wow:

17. We bought a package.... cost us about $200 each....
For eight seats around the 35 yard line. Of course, that was a package with hotel and airfare also so that's probably why. I think all together I paid around $700 for the whole three day trip.

6. Did Clinton's numbers ever ...
dip below 50%? Seems to me I remember his numbers being 65% at the height of the impeachment.

Cheers

12. Hmmm, I think they were close to 50% in 93-94.
Before the economic boom started I believe he wasn't viewed very well.

From 1995 through 2000 he was always VERY popular. Even in the middle of the Lewinsky mess he was still polling in the 60's.

15. Clinton was in the 40s early in his first term
The economy was still kind of lame in 1993, 1994, though.

7. When you consider that about a third of the voters
are true believers who will never abandon Schleprock and another third are hardcore democrats who will never support him, that leaves about a third who are swing voters.

Of these swing voters about one third give Schleprock a passing grade. That is his true approval number.

11. Polls...
Love your intro...I get so sick of DU's Dem-bashing. Instead of rejoicing at Bush's in-the-toilet numbers, I see comments about Kerry's WalMart stock...who cares! My sister was a raging lefty and when she died I discovered that her stock portfolio contained some Enron shares (under Enron's new name).
