Any feedback yet from Repubs finding out the new head of GOP is gay?

1. It will be interesting

For the most part, the gay bashing is a tactic to get support, and many of the GOP mouth pieces won't really care and will keep quiet on this.

However, the religious right, as much as we disagree with them, is in one way better than the hacks running the GOP. At least they do vote on principle (even if misguided principles) and there is the chance that some of them might eventually pick up on things like this to realize how they are being used.

16. They DO care

The little people who vote Republican based on homophobia sure do care.

It's true the Republican leaders themselves don't care...they only pretend to in order to use homophobia as a motivating tool for their base....but that base DOES care. The thing is, most of them don't know the name of the head of the RNC, much less that he's gay. Their ignorance and hatred of gays is a pretty good motivator on election day, but beyond that the Republican leadership hopes they don't demand too much once they've visited the polls.

How else do you explain Bush recently indicating he won't go after a federal marriage amendment after all....not realizing that revelation might whip the fundies into a frenzy. They think *they* have a mandate. They want to see the bush administration's anti-gay rhetoric realized as action now. Bush promised them he'd go after gays and lesbians and they expect him and the Reublicans to deliver.

After all, we can't attack someone because they are gay. Then we would be the hypocrites. Remember how they spun it when Kerry and Edwards dared to mention that Cheney's daughter is a lesbian.

I really don't care whether he's gay, but it's *their* hypocrisy that drives me batty.

17. That was silly

and ultimately only exposed their own hypocrisy I thought. They wanted to have it both ways: to look like they were defending Mary Cheney but also to put forth the notion that being a lesbian was something to be ashamed of and not to be mentioned in pubic like Kerry did. The very act of being outraged over the L word on teevee (!) proved their deep homophobia. How silly!

Edited to add: My thoughts on blogactive and on calling attention to gays and lesbians who support anti-gay policies and rhetoric is that it should be done and has to be done. There is nothing wrong with outing hypocrisy. And those who support state-sanctioned discrimination against gays and lesbians deserved to be called out, be they straight or gay.

and asked gay activists to not make it part of a campaign against him.
