2. Sorry, but I disagree

most comedies and dramas are so formulaic any more that they are all a yawn. I watch very very few if any. There is nothing better or more exciting on t.v. than the Amazing Race! I also like Survivor, the Apprentice, Extreme Home Makeover among others. However, gross out shows like Fear Factor and shallow shows like The Swan or Extreme Makeover suck big time. I'd rather watch how real people behave in fabricated situations, then so called "stars" pretending to be other people in fabricated stories. I still like theatrical release movies, but give me a great reality show or a good documentary first please.

In their rush to "produce" television shows that cost no more than the celluoid and the cameraman's wages, they have come up with "reality television". Want talented stars to entertain you? Not gonna happen anymore, unless you go to the theater or watch pay per view. Goodbye Seinfeld, Cheers. May you rest in peace.

6. Most of it's not even reality

in the sense that it represents the daily life of actual people. Except in these TV shows, people are never under the same circumstances. At least for most of the shows.

7. It's sad that so many Americans get joy at watching other people

go through torture, humiliation and emotional pain. I believe this is
just conditioning to get the sheeple ready for public torture and executions which is part of the plan to "entertain/control" the masses. Notice that the next biggest one is always more gross and more physical and emotional pain and treachery and back stabbing this will justify turning in your friends and family when the time comes. Sick Sick Sick. As an adult your responsible for what you put into your mind on a continuous basis.

I have had the thoughts of "The Running Man" from the Bachman books. Goverment and industy using television to pacify the masses. And who did they prey on? Why the weak and needy of course If you think about it the show featured in the book was more or less a reality show lol!

I can't watch any of them. I feel like I'm loosing IQ points just letting the channel stay on one of them for even a minute.

Regular TV is dying a slow death because of them.

I only watch two reality shows and I don't think of them in that way really..."Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" and "MythBusters"

I don't watch much in the way of "reality TV" because of my actor friends out of a job, but I still enjoy Jeopardy.

which was mildly amusing for a while, and it's just gotten loonier and loonier.

and even before that there was "Queen for a Day".. Appalachian-poor women in housedresses and hairnets, groveling for a Maytag wringer washing machine :(

For networks, it's a win-win..They "give" the contestants "donated" goods and services in exchange for advertising. people will grovel and humiliate themselves for "free stuff"..

No writers to pay, no agents to deal with, no massive sets to build, not nearly as many "highly paid" union camera/production people to pay..
