A DoD designed $1000 'Mark 1 weapon remover' that is shaped just like a stick? That would be a great use of tax money.

The OP seem to be stating that the military is forced to use sticks to get weapons from a barrel. For any one familiar with the 'booby trap' concept they would realize that reaching into a space with ones hand is considered a bad idea, thus the use of the stick to hopefully save some fingers so your wife doesn't have to open your ketchup bottles for the rest of your life.


My point was simply this:

We can't criticize everything as being negative, if the soldier uses a stick we post statements like 'gee we can't provide our troops with proper equipment' If he had a special reaching tool we would post 'gee why not use a stick, it would be just as good and all the money used to develop and construct a metal stick could have gone to more armored humvees.'

seems like we, as a country, got our money's worth. a buried blue bucket of something at a cost of $200+ billion, 1300+ dead, countless Iraqi deaths....seems like a worth while expense....

7. wooden sticks are recommended

for probing for mines and booby-traps. They also teach you to take your helmet off, though. This guy forgot that part.

is it the stick? If he was worried about that "barrel" blowing up, you'd think he wouldn't have his two hands over the opening. BTW, that's a bucket, not a barrel.
