As of 5:30pm local, the doctors in Chicago report he is in critical condition, having had surgery on a hemoragic stroke on the right side of his brain and removal of blood caused from trauma (falling) on both sides. Surgeons report the next 24-48 are critical to recovery. Gov. O'Bannon is on a respirator and medicated to keep him unconsious during this period.
This from a live press conference with the doctors carried live on local Indianapolis stations.
