Turner Compares Fox's Popularity to Hitler

Ted Turner called Fox a propaganda tool of the Bush administration and indirectly compared Fox News Channel's popularity to Adolph Hitler's popular election to run Germany before World War II.

Turner made those fiery comments in his first address at the National Association for Television Programming Executives' conference since he was ousted from Time Warner Inc. five years ago.

Mr. Turner, what the HELL were you thinking, selling your once fine network off to those thugs?

Imagine how different the face of American media might be today had you not sold out...

4. I am confused about Mr. Turner

way back in the early 1980s I thought he was the conservative saviour who was gonna buy CBS because it was way too liberal. Am I mis-remembering, or did Jane convert him or what?

14. Turner has always been fairly progressive for a media mogul.

Remember the "Goodwill Games" of the eighties? That was his idea to continue friendly competition between the US and Russia after Carter's ill-advised Olympic boycott. He's a big democratic contributor.

Had he not sold CNN, it would undoubtedly be VERY different today.

Roger Ailes cleverly targeted a conservative, gullible television audience providing "news" with coded language that appealed to them.

It was brilliant marketing and even the fake "liberals" on the Fox News programs are quick to wink at the objectivity of their network.

However, CNN really makes an effort to reach a broader audience and all the it was CNN who pushed the Iraqi War more than any other news outlet in America.

The night of the invasion Aaron Brown was grinning ear to ear exclaiming over and over "Great fun! Great fun!"...while children were being bombed out of their homes.

And no one in the entire televised medium approaches Wolf Blitzer's fanning the flames of raw emotions for making war against Iraq.

If you think about it, the entire mess should be called the Bush and Blitzer war.

This is a quite lengthy article by Ted Turner which was published in the "Washington Monthly" in the July/August 2004 edition. Rather than to bias my opinion with my personal perspective, I would hope that all take the time to read it!! It is a an EXCELLENT read!

I don't care to be locked in a room with anyone! However, Turner does give some extremely interesting perspective regarding the corporate takeover of the information which reaches the citizens of this country. He also depicts quite clearly, in his perspective of his personal experience how this has occurred.

I will lock myself in my own apartment....thank you, but, it is most important to understand why there are no more Walter Cronkite's, or any other journalists which are being sponsored by the media forces which have forced us to seek refuge in the "quasi-objective" internet resources upon which we seek the truth; and, those internet sources are not "viewed" by the "main stream" American citizen who has very little time to spend the hours of each day to "vet" the reliability of those sources.

It is time to take back the media, and those sources which misinform our citizenry in disallowing the CONTROLLED dissemination of information which allows all of us to become more responsible for the decisions in choosing our elected officials.

Choice "C" is not well defined! But, choosing between (A) Ted Turner, or, (B) Rupert Murdoch is not the question! The answer is to find out WHY the media has been stolen from America, and, what practical solutions would be to resolve the "corporate" takeover.
