The Truth About The DC Voucher Trap
"Fewer than one in four DC families with school-age children would even be eligible for a voucher. Those that do qualify have no guarantee that their children will be accepted to a private school, or that the voucher would cover the costs of a private education."

The Facts

"DC Vouchers are an Assault on Public Education
Washington, DC, Opposes Vouchers
DC Vouchers Undermine the Separation Between Church and State
DC Voucher Program Allows Discrimination
Vouchers Don't Improve Academic Success
Lack of Fiscal and Academic Accountability"

"The new report, The Voucher Veneer: The Deeper Agenda to Privatize Public Education, is authored by People For the American Way Foundation. The report focuses on a network of Religious Right groups, free-market economists, ultraconservative columnists and others who are using vouchers as a vehicle to achieve their ultimate goal of privatizing most or all of the public education system."

1. Works the same here in Milwaukee
Vouchers take select kids from a system in which they have rights into a system in which they have no rights - including that of a good education.

Private schools don't have to accept anyone. They don't have to prove they are successful at their job of teaching. And they can charge you any price they deem appropriate to boot.

2. Accountability?
Isn't it true that in Milwaukee, the private schools are not required--maybe not even allowed--to release test scores?

Also, there was a flaw in the legislation that resulted in voucher students paying more for tuition than regular private school students. Has that been corrected?
