Why is Chris Matthews making me puke talking about Marines in Iraq?

Maybe 31 dead Marines today? It makes me puke to have someone try to convince me that this war in Iraq is a noble venture, something to be proud of. It even makes me sicker to hear young soldiers try to justify and condone what is going on--even as 31 of their fellow soldiers are killed for no good reason.

To hell with the people who say they are fighting for our freedom and security. Iraq was no threat to the US. The soldiers are fighting for a political and economic agenda that regards them as so much fodder. Chris was so cavalier saying that these deaths are just to be expected as a part of war. A war for what? The dead soldiers have no "freedom" or "democracy." Neither they nor their families were about to lose their freedom to Saddam. THIS IS TOTAL BULLSHIT!!!

check lbn - I think there were at least two additional incidents beyond the helicopter crash that led to US troop fatalities today.

I hate this war. But, I can understand family members, and soldiers themselves trying to justify the war... pyschologically - how does one accept such loss without some kind of justification. Very hard for many too accept the sheer mendacity and lack of regard for human life that led to our troops being there, and led to their undermanned and underequipped status. It doesn't take much reading of the news to figure out these things are true (the lack of war justification still standing, and the lack of remorse over ANY aspects of the war from bushco) - However - for those sent and those whose loved ones who were sent - I do have some empathy of the need to try to cling to the superficial explanations as a means of dealing with their grief/circumstances.

Matthews, however, being flippant - is a big part of the problem that led to the lack of serious national/public dialogue prior to the war... and thus allowing the proverbial "lambs (ours and theirs) to the slaughter". :-(

7. And We'll Be The Ones Blamed In The Aftermath

Yep, once again those of us with compassion and concern are being framed as the "defeatists". When we get our asses chased from Iraq (and there will be a when), those responsible for this fiasco will point at us and say it was because we stood up and made noise while the sheeple drank the cool-aid that we "lost the war". Bullshit!

It was the anti-war movement that brought the POW issue to the front during Vietnam (that's why Kerry was in Paris) and somehow we were framed as the "traitors" and losers. We were the ones who welcomed the vets back to our cities and tried to help them cope and adjust to a nation that was ignoring them then like the majority are ignoring our Iraq vets now. We went to the VA hospitals, raised money for down & out vets and helped families that had been torn apart by that horrid war. Many here are doing the same with this one.

The national tolerance to deaths in this invasion continues to grow. It was bad that we were losing one or two a week, then it was 10 a week...now 25 here and 30 there...oh well. Plus the wingnuts will be the first to say these people volunteered for this and thus somehow that justifies their needless deaths. This war just hasn't caused enough pain yet. I fear we have a long, dark road to travel.
