It's tax time again, and I noticed that I've been given an increase of $200 ($1000 total) this year that I can deduct per child. It's more money in my pocket, but I feel guilty taking a Child Tax Credit. An administration with record budget deficits can't actually afford tax cuts or even increases to tax cuts. The government had surpluses when the credit was first introduced, and it was a way to give families a much needed break. Really, what the Child Tax Credit means now is that I'm getting a break that future generations will be paying for. If our government won't reign in it's spending, and insists on leaving the tab for the future, then the least it can do is make sure that more children reach retirement through good health care right now.
I know many of you have hard feelings for Kerry, but this is a good bill to support.
