I just read the transcript (I absorb ideas better that way) of Will's speech on 1/20 at UofDC PDA conference. Here's the link if you haven't read it
http://www.democracynow.org/article.pl?sid=05/01/24/1542220He was talking about it being vital to expand access to the net, especially in poor and rural areas. I agree wholeheartedly. And not just access but access to machines as well.
So it struck me: This is do-able. Maybe as not-for-profit internet cafes charging on some kind of sliding scale. Perhaps getting the machines ( and maybe a provider) through donations. There are a lot of obsolete machines out there. On Democracy Now, there is a link to donate machines to.
OK I know this is probably already being done. I'm rarely original. But, maybe doing it on a national scale, organizing and soliciting donations on that level would be a good idea.
Anyway. My thoughts. Thought I would post it
