It's Happening! Oct. 25, Mass Demo..DC
OCTOBER_25th: March for an end to the occupation of Iraq!

(please, if you are so inclined, keep this kicked)

http://www.unitedforpeace.org/article.php?id=1957

Act Now to Stop War & End Racism (ANSWER) and United for Peace and Justice (UFPJ), are joining forces to call on all those who oppose the war, invasion and occupation of Iraq, to unite on Saturday, October 25 in Washington, D.C., for a truly massive outpouring reflecting the growing popular opposition to the Bush Administration's foreign and domestic program.

It was the peace and antiwar movement in the 1960's and 70's that proved to be one of the decisive factors ending the US war in Vietnam. The October 25th demonstration will be a powerful repudiation by the people of the United States of Bush's criminal war and occupation of Iraq and will be a signal of the new antiwar movement's potent political force countering the Bush Administration.

UFPJ and ANSWER have both organized antiwar demonstrations numbering in the hundreds of thousands in the last year and have now agreed to join forces for the purpose of organizing the October 25 National March on Washington, D.C. under the banner: End the Occupation of Iraq, Bring the
Troops Home Now! The protest will also condemn the vast cuts in vital domestic social and economic programs and demand: Money for jobs, education & healthcare, not war and occupation.
As the October 25-26 weekend is also the second anniversary of the passage of the so-called Patriot Act, authorizing political arrests, indefinite detentions, domestic spying, and religious and racial profiling, the demonstration will also be a call to Fight Back Against the Patriot Act.

By working together we are optimistic that this mobilization will be an expression of the wide-spread opposition to the ongoing occupation of Iraq. We urge you to do everything possible to help bring massive numbers of people to Washington, D.C. on October 25th!

Statement Issued by ANSWER and UFPJ, 9/5/03.

3. I Hope You Jam the Mall!
I too got that energized "calling" to be in DC for my B-day in January, and against better financial judgement, and with all that pent-up righteous indignation, we left that winter day at 3AM and just caught the end of the march. I'll recall the bitterness of the 13 degrees below zero in the mountains of PA&WV as well as the strange smoldering rage within! The rest of the weekend, we wandered past the monuments honoring our nation's leaders and spirited past. We braved the barricades of the WH.

I hope you jam the mall and sound off loudly; the domestic corporate terrorists continue to wage war against their own! We had a dream/ MARCH IN PEACE AND STRENGTH!

5. i'll be there, BUT......
they have seriously got to *focus* this protest on the failures in iraq and afghanistan created by the miserable failure in the WH.
take a page out of the repuke handbook, and just hammer the talking points home.
the protest in march in DC lacked that--had people speaking on anythign from migrant farm workers to affirmative action to global trade, all of which are incredibly important, but when there isn't a focus, it adds to the image portrayed in the movie "P.C.U." of a bunch of people with their own agendas and no centralized message.

and late october in DC is a great time for a revolution.

6.  Let's Mobilize! beware of Biden-like reasoning
there are folks trying to argue that whatever mistakes were made WE need to fix Iraq by pouring billions (more) into the corrupt pockets of the Cheney/Rumsfeld cartel. That we need the UN, but under American 'experienced' leadership.

Nothing good can come from these people because their objectives have NEVER had anything to do with the good of the Iraqi people!

We can't fall for the newest version of the con!

We need to be out there now, as much as we needed to be out there before the invasion, demanding that all power be taken out of Bush/Rumsfeld/Cheney/Halliburton hands.

I know this article has been posted recently, but If you haven't already, give it a read.

7. I will be there
I will come penniless, and will drive all night to be there, but I will be there. I do this not for myself, but for the sake of a co-worker, who has a grandson in Iraq. I do this so that he may come home alive to his family, and to see his newborn child.
