C-Span 2: Great interview with Clinton from Davos! "Clinton Unplugged!"

I hope it's repeated tonight. It's a really "in depth interview" about our foreign policy, Iraq, his differences with the Emperor...what he thought about this election, what he thought about "The Speech" and what it means to the world. His view of our foreign policy contrasted with the Bushies and of our military is very interesting.

Clinton said our foreign policy in Iraq since the 1950's is what caused the problems there.(Goes into all of the terrible stuff we have done which put Saddam in power) He said "I know it's not popular for me to admit this about our American foreign policy." He got a huge round of applause from the audience which included Ted Turner sitting in the front.

The audience seemed to be Liberal and Clinton speaks to the huge differences between himself and Bush...while saying that since they come from the same "part of the country" he has has a good understanding of him and he warned Gore, that Chimp "was smarter than folks thought and a better politician than given credit for."

He said about the RW Repugs and their tactics that he had gotten over being mad about them...and figured that since they were so sucessful you had to figure out how to work with them to get what you want when you don't agree with them. (There was bitterness I picked up in his analogy about their "success" in that he said they had alot of money behind them making them the winning team).

He was just getting into a really interesting discussion about I/P talking about the future of the Israeli's and Palestinians now that Arafat is gone, when C-Span claims they lost their Sattelite Signal! LOL's I thought that was very funny that the signal got pulled. Rove must have given the order from DC...PULL THE FRICKING SIGNAL HE'S MAKING US LOOK BAD!

It's worth checking C-Span to see this no matter how anyone feels at this point, about Clinton,(love him or hate him) ...the man is brilliant and thoughtful. When one compares him to what we have today...the contrast is startling.

3. Oh...I got the impression he's very upset. I think seeing the interview

gives a good insight into what he's thinking and where he is in his mind about Bush and the country right now. I think it's worth a watch rather than just sitting and dissing him. His thinking is interesting for the perspective.

I have some real problems with some of his policies...but compared to what we have in the WH right now...it's good to listen to someone who actually "thinks" and has insight into where we are. Even if folks blame everything that we are going through on Clinton (and some blame should be placed there) I think he was a better President than the Chimp and he's worth listening to. :shrug: All this Clinton hating without discussion doesn't help any of us who are having trouble dealing with four more years of the Chimp. To at least see what Clinton is thinking is helpful in planning how the hell we are going to fix what's wrong in America. :shrug: I think it's one of the best interviews I've seen because Clinton is so candid.

4. I don't hate Clinton

I do feel he and his wife are making a big effort to build bridges with the GOP. How does one do that with traitors?

So, I figure Clinton figures, either adapt to neo fascism or die of heart disease over it. It's probably the same dilemma many here are grappling with, depending on one's state of health.

2. First things first -- Davos is NOT a "liberal" audience -- it's neoliberal

Second, although I'm glad that Clinton is admitting that much of our foreign policy is behind the course of events in the Middle East, I fail to see where he is offering up positive solutions. IIRC, he was supportive of the IWR and the conquest of Iraq -- his main difference was more over nuance. He also recently made that comment about how he "gets" GWB, and "likes" him.

Third, I am troubled by the venue at which he is appearing. The WEF in Davos is, IMHO, symbolic of the biggest problem we face -- our placement of wealth ahead of humanity in our heirarchy of values. There is another forum taking place simultaneously in Porto Allegre, Brazil, which better symbolizes this value switch that must take place before we really solve any of these problems.

We must first strive to be people who value JUSTICE over WEALTH, and then we might make some progress....

5. I agree with you, Irate. But, his "thinking process" was interesting in

this interview. He did not say he would have gone into Iraq. And, he does NOT think we should go into Iran. He walked carefully at times in what he said (he can't come out and trash Bush..much as we would like) but between the lines the differences were clear with what he would have done and what Bush has done.

I hope you will watch it, if it repeats. Or, maybe you did, and you are just saying that you didn't see what I did. I think we are forgetting what the RWingers did to the guy...not that he didn't bring it on himself and not that he wasn't complicit with policies I never supported. He was a better man that what sits in that WH today. That the system used him and he used it back says more about how corrupt our political process is in this country than whether Clinton was a "tool" willingly or not. Look at what happened to Gore and Kerry... Both better men that any Repug who have sat their butts at the Oval Office desk.

But the damned political system, with the lobbyists, the RW Think Tanks the Beltway Operatives makes it impossible for anyone but one of their own to govern "effectively" (like a Fascist). I think Clinton was up against alot and he made the best he could of it...the Monica think was what undid him and us...but still he was better than the trash there now.

I just can't get into the Clinton hating right now...I have enough to be angry about with the last election. I have to start trying to be more positive. Clinton's interview made me feel positive. Maybe it's a sign I've lost my mind...:eyes:

7. I saw part of this today before CSPAN

lost its feed. Yes, Clinton was very thoughtful and insightful. People here dissed him because of his comment about getting along with the blivet, but Clinton is in an untenable position in that respect. What's he supposed to say? So he remained tactful while still offering his learned opinions and suggestions. I also like Charlie Rose a lot, so this was a twofer!

8. It was great. Gave real good history of US caught in its own pittard.

by overthrowing a democratically elected head of Iran in the 1950s to install our puppet Shaw.

He was giving a brillaint opinion on the I/P situation which was very balanced. As soon as he was about to point out the evidence of some of the things the Israelis have not lived up to (promises about no new settlements but the numbers have consistently increased) C-Span claims they lost their sattelite feed. Hmmmmmm...

But for sure this was a great interview and discussion which seemed to be much appreciated by the audience. One thing about Clinton that was always true: after hearing him speak on any subject, when he was through, you could always say you learned something.
