TAMPA - Karen Winter- Christy stood at the checkout counter of Christian Armory and happily surveyed her purchases: framed art, DVDs, books, posters, pens, CDs.
``I think I may have dropped about $400 in total,'' she admitted, noting that this was her second trip to the store in one day. ``But look at these bargain prices! At 40 percent off, this is a great deal.''

Business may seem brisk, but shoppers snapping up liquidation deals are too little too late for the 20-year- old Christian supply store. Owners Bobby and JoAnn Tebo are closing their Carrollwood store Saturday.

They are not alone. Little Flower, which caters to Catholics in Carrollwood, closes in May to make way for a new Lowe's home improvement store. And Just for Heaven's Sake, a Catholic retailer in south Tampa, is for sale.

1. How many friggin bibles can you buy??

I've always been amazed that any of these stores exist

5. You ever been into one

They are more than Bibles. We have one in our area called the Christian Light Bookstore. Its more or less equivalent to your average Borders store. There is this whole world of Christian books, music, DVDs and believe it or not video games out there.

8. You know being a lapsed Catholic

makes it even more fascinating. I swear that some Christians think it started with Jesus and the Disciples and then moved straight on to Martin Luther.

My favorite part was the books telling you how music, movies, games etc were Satanic and why. I always got a laugh out of those.

I actually bought a book from our local shop once. One day I was in the general vicinity of the local Christian super store and decided to check it out. They had a sale rack and I checked the titles out. They had a a new translation of the works of Josephus from Oxford University Press for ten bucks I picked it up.

9. I'm a former Catholic, now atheist

and I was fascinated to read "The Whore of Babylon" in one of those stores.

10. Me I have moved over to the deist position

and lean towards paganism. One of the best and most intresting books I ever read was called the "Harlot by the Side of the Road." It was written by a writer who was not a clergy member and it was basically about all the strange things that pop up in the Old Testament and all of the stories that the priests, rabbis and pastors don't tell you.

that is one book I have never had problems recomending. You will find it fascinating and thought provoking at times. Especially the chapter about God having a wife and her slowly being put out of the picture.

4. It is sort of strange in a way

Many (not all) Christians support Bush. Bush and his crew are lobbied by stores like Wal-Mart, etc. Also, republican policies tend towards putting forth laws that support the Wal-Martization of our country, and now, the world.

The mega-stores are putting the mom-and-pop X-tian stores out of business. Many of whom think Bush can bring about the Christianizing of our country.

BTW-do Wal-Marts have Catholic materials?

shelves of religous books in Wal Mart but never actually looked at them. Don't know if they are general Christianity or more specific.
