Did anyone see the History Channel tonight and the plot to kill Nixon?

This was an amazing show. Am I the only one who did not know that Feb 1974 a man boarded a DC9 with a man made bomb and two weapons and was going to hijack a plane and use ..Get this ..AN AIRPLANE AS A MISSLE TO FLY INTO THE WHITEHOUSE !......to assisinate Nixon !

The people on the History Channel kept putting up the little sign to log on to their website and order the show. The Plot to Kill Nixon.
Did Condi Rice not say that , and I am paraprasing here, after that memo that No one would ever think of using airplanes to hijack and crash planes into buildings. Did she not say this under oath? Well Well Condi, you must have bee in the dark as much as me, as I had never heard of this, but of course I do not have access to Secret Service Memo's and was not the National Security Advisor now Secretary of State.

The man left behind audio tapes and mailed some to a newspaper . He killed one pilot and critically wounded another and shot a security officer at the airport. HE then shot himself after a stand off in Maryland with police. He made it into the cockpit and shot the pilots. There were passengers aboard the DC9 who were taken hostage.
This was 30 years ago. The show also said that the White was reinforced in 1945 in fear of Kamakazee pilots flying into the White House. Hmmmmm. Did no one tell any of the presidents or secret service from 74 to 2001 of this incident? What about the airlines, did they consider it so small an event, not to step up security in a BIG sort of way !

They said the White House was fortified for FDR specifically for aircraft attacks including kamikaze attacks.

As for the nixon assassination attempt... who knew?!? Just think of all the other F'd up stuff that's happened that we have't been told.

Even if he did crash into the White House or fell short for that matter... how would that have changed things? Would there have been copycats? Would security and airspace monitoring have been increased for high profile targets? Weird wild stuff!

I do, however, remember a plot to fly a plane into the Eiffel Tower. That wasn't very long ago, and it is what was going through my mind while Rice was saying "no one could conceive..."

The Eiffel Tower incident was around Christmas time, and was Flight 8689 or something. It's on record. It was no secret (except to C. Rice. The rest of the world knew about it. It was on the television news and in the newspapers.)

"The Assassination of Richard Nixon" starring Sean Penn, Naomi Watts and Don Cheadle. He was almost comic relief, his crazy plot to get Dick Nixon. That was before 9/11, though. Now it's probably one of the more chilling parts.

He went around in a dirty Santa suit according to the Sondheim show, and sent his audio tapes to Leonard Bernstein. Didn't get too far, but there you have it.

37. Just FYI, the White House was completely renovated...

...during the years 1948-52. It was at that time that it was reinforced to reflect the Cold War realities then current. The Truman's actually lived across the street in the Blair House for much of his presidency due to the upgrades that were then in progress.
