Clark supporters, would you support Dean with Clark on the ticket. I think this is a possibliy. With Clarks lack of campaign experience he may be better served to wait as a VP and run for Pres. as a seasoned politician.

1. I Already Support Dean
He's my favorite of the ones running. I would certainly switch to Clark if he runs. But I'm for Dean whether he picks Clark as VP or not, if Clark doesn't run.

2. Clark emphatically said no to VP spot
in a radio interview this morning. I heard it. It's not part of the equation for him.

9. He's coming to Knoxville to give a speech at the Truman Dinner
on the 13th. Gotta figure he's got something up his sleeve, since it's be hard to do that and still waffle. could be done, but it's be hard.

There will be 1,000 people at the Knoxville Convention Center and he's a featured speaker, along with Harold Ford.

13. I will be there too.
I am flying in from NY. It should be great. We do not expect him to announce at that event. It may happen that day, but not at the dinner. It should be a great event.

7. Clark said no to a VP spot?
Edited on Mon Sep-08-03 10:59 PM by BEFOREATHOUGHT
Look I'm a huge fan of Clark, but he said Vp is out of the question?
Did he mean like hey I’m running for Pres so there won't be any of that Vp talk? Or did he mean it as it is beneath me and it wont happen even if Dean wins?

8. He was asked
about a possible VP spot. He stated he hadn't even thought about it, it wasn't a consideration. My take is that his decision is about the presidency, nothing less.

15. sounds like the standard issue response to that question
I have heard several of the candidates answer in a similar way when asked if they would consider VP. CMB did it today on Crossfire.

If Clark is serious about running, he's not going to admit that he would consider the VP, even if, in reality, he would. And that's smart. To admit that they would consider VP takes them out of serious contention, and possibly makes them look a little shady, like they are only running for pres to get the VP spot.

17. Sounds like he didn't rule it out, though
The pundits think he's positioning himself for VP. As is Graham.

Will they be right or wrong, who knows.

14. Clark said that was not the decision up for consideration
he did not specifically say he would NEVER accept the VP spot but he made it exceptionally clear that that is not what all this has been about.

16. of course
As much as I want Clark to run for Pres... if it turned out that way, of course I would support a Dean/Clark ticket.

18. Why do people do this?
Edited on Mon Sep-08-03 11:36 PM by tjdee
Why do they take their second favorite and try to bump him into second place on some imagined ticket?

Clark would never do that, and if he did, I still wouldn't support Dean in the primaries. In the general, I'd obviously support Dean, but I'd always be thinking that the stronger man is at the bottom.

What is this "political experience" some are so worried about?

19. It's not a good idea
to make blanket statements about the other candidates like that. Never say "I'll never support (the other guy) at the top of the ticket."

Remember, in just 14 months we may have to choose between a guy we say now we can never support, and (by default) supporting Dubya.

I'm not saying there can't be one or two candidates in a 9/10 field that you just can't support. I've got a couple myself (although undecided on who TO support). BUT it should be someone you couldn't support even if YOUR guy wasn't running, not just someone who is challenging your favorite.
