The Iraqi people were brave, a toast to them

of course we know the election was not what it should be and was Bush's cynical ploy to make it appear we are bringing 'democracy' to Iraq.

But the beleaguered and traumatized Iraqis are bravely trying to take this thin straw and somehow cast a vote for a better future.
They are not stupid, and the majority want the US occupation to end.
They were given this entirely flawed choice to risk their lives to vote. It is all they have. They want to have some hope and optimism in their world.

So, although I am a bitter critic of Bush's little games, and I know Bush will spin this in the most disgraceful way and take credit for a 'wonderful success' in bringing 'freedom' to Iraq, entirely overlooking the death, destruction and despair that US has been responsible for in Iraq, never mentioning the ulterior moves to privatize Iraq and it's oil for American interests,

I want to sincerely congratulate the Iraqi people for their courage!

edit: I should probably have mentioned that I also entirely respect those who chose not to vote, for whatever reason. As a whole, my heart just goes out to the people of Iraq.

You seem to be taking the mainstream media at their word. They're getting their information from Allawi. If we can't get the truth about elections here, why do you think you can get the truth about elections there? CNN and the others will be showing the same Iraqis standing in line for weeks.

These folks were used by neocons who think nothing of sacrificing lives while they work behind the scenes to steal Iraq's oil and resources, even as the country threatens to head into an inevitable civil war.

Water Anxiety...
I have to make this fast. We have about two hours of electricity- hopefully. The water came back yesterday evening. It's just a little drizzle but it's certainly better than nothing.

E. was the first to hear it. We were sitting in the living room and he suddenly jumped up, alert, "Do you hear that?" He asked. I strained my ears for either the sound of a plane or helicopter or gun shots. Nothing... except, wait... something... like a small stream of... water? Could it be? Was it back? We both ran into the bathroom where we had the faucets turned on for the last eight days in anticipation of water. Sure enough, there it was- a little stream of water that kept coming and going as if undecided. E. and I did a little victory dance in front of the sink with some celebratory hoots and clapping.
