As if anything less than a U.S. puppet government will be permitted to sit in Baghdad.

As if Iraqis will be permitted control their own political destiny.

Or their own oil.

As if anything BushCo touches (including the Iraqi "elections") is not poison.

How repulsive was that to see Bush and Powell complaining about discrepancies in the exit polls in Ukraine when we had the same discrepancies in Bush's election. If the tables had been reversed in Ukraine and Bush's favorite had originally won, do you think our government would have said anything? Not a chance!

One way they could prove it isn't a total hoax would be when the people that just got elected meet to write a constitution, they include a provision whereby every Iraqi gets percentage of the revenue from oil sales. Something like Alaskans get. But I won't hold my breath.

9. I am really ambivalent about the whole thing...

I agree.

After all that has happened to them over the past two decades, I want the Iraqis to decide their own political, social and economic future.

Yet, my intution tells me that, if history shows us anything, the US government is only out for themselves. And the sick thing is they are selfish at the expense of so many Iraqis who would like a better world.

Unfortunately, I think today's "election" has created a false bubble of hope. I'm afraid it will not last.

12. As soon as I heard their murky

half-assed explanations, or lack thereof, of how these candidates or in some cases apparently just "parties" with unnamed candidates got on the ballot, I knew it was a hoax. I am guessing the Baath Party wasn't on the ballot and I doubt any Kurdish separatists made the cut either. So who cares who wins or even who voted if all the candidates have been vetted by us? Imagine the drama on election night if George was running against Jeb, Neil and Marvin.

10. The meter on my bullshit detector has been pegged all day.

This so called election is a farce. No way they got the kind of turnout they are claiming. I heard MSNBC say 72%, then 60%, then well, there is no reliable way to know what percent, the back to 60%.

They are whistling in the dark. The American people desperately want to believe we have done a good thing by invading Iraq.

As if the bush misadministration hadn't already made hundreds of mistakes, big and small, leading up to this day, and will make, unfortunately for all of us, many more in the weeks and months to come.

It is funny to see ANYONE accepting anything about this "election" as legit. None of it is.

As for the brave Iraqis who risked their lives to cast a meaningless vote in a sham lie of an election, I feel sorry for them. Risking your life for democracy is one thing. Risking your life for a puppet government in a country occupied by a foreign invader is just insane.
