Power through a representative process is the essence of democracy, but what we have just witnessed is a far cry from this. Would it not have been better to have each population center have a designated number of representatives to be sent to a constitutional convention? This might have saved lives and resources. This, of course, favors those who can provide basic personal security as does what just occurred.
However, in response to myself on the above trying to go over the "what ifs" takes away from the basic issue. The problem on our side is that we try to keep fitting this square peg into a round hole. For the other side it is very simple, they have no difficulty pronouncing anything it isn't to gain advantage. If anything of value comes out of this process, it is spite of this administration's policies, not because of them. Instead we should be blunt and accurate. Democracy is not possible under these conditions and must wait for our withdrawal. Our issue should be the means that produced this situation and not the less than perfect result.
