If these elections go well, then fine. I hope the Iraqis will be able to recover from the devastation of Saddam, the invasion, occupation, and terrorism that has wreaked havoc upon the country.
But this still justifies nothing. The war was still based on a lie. We were told there were WMDS. There weren't. We were told Iraq had links to Al Quaeda. It didn't (well it possibly does now).
Over 1400 American troops are dead...and possibly over a hundred thousand Iraqis. Basically we've liberated them...by killing them.
True democracy will rise up from within. It was not, and is not the US's responsibility to enforce Democracy upon the world. If it is, we should be going to most of the Arab world and all of Africa as well, not to mention China.
I'm tired of hearing about Iraq. It was a country of 62 million people, but it has been at the focal point of US policy for over 14 years. The US has had an irrational obsession with this country.
Time to leave it be and let them find its own future. It's over. You had your little war Bush. Bring home the troops.
