Dennis Miller To Join Boston Public

Comedian/actor Dennis Miller has signed on for a three-episode arc on the Peabody Award-winning series Boston Public (Fridays, 9/8c). Miller's first episode will air Friday, October 24.

Miller will play an unabashedly materialist investment banker who, convicted of securities fraud, avoids jail time by agreeing to community service – his worst nightmare – teaching math at an inner city school.

Miller is a five-time Emmy Award winner for his critically acclaimed "Dennis Miller Live," which ended its nine-year run after 215 episodes. Most recently, Miller wrote, produced and performed in the Emmy-nominated cable stand-up special "The Raw Feed," which premiered in April 2003. Currently, Miller provides weekly commentary for the Fox News Channel on Friday Nights for "Hannity & Colmes" and elsewhere on the Channel.

1. Boston Public was always a little too much anyway....
and this pretty much seals the deal for me. I used to watch it at first, but it was soooo unrealistic it became unbearable.
Can you say JUMP THE SHARK? I think you can!

8. it's really not that unrealistic..
I help out at my old high school occasionally. This school is considered to be an 'inner-city' school and the problems that occur every day are mind boggling.

Issue wise - the show is pretty realistic - not everything of course but on the whole it's a good representative of the situations in inner city schools these days.

There are certainly enough wacko teachers out there teachers to say Lipshitz(sp) isn't that far off track either. sad to say.

4. So sad
I remember a time (doesn't seem like it was that long ago) that I thought Dennis was the coolest cat around. I remember his stand-up from the 80s, "Mr. Miller Goes to Washington" and thought it was a riot. Even on the Dennis Miller Show, he'd really impress me from time to time. Then, slowly, he began slipping deeper and deeper into oblivion. Now that he's a full-fledged Bush-ass-kissing repuke, I can't even stand to see his face.

Maybe one day he'll come back around, but it will take a lot more than that for me to forgive him.

5. Since His Life Arc Goes Counter to the Storyline Arc...
I've never seen the show, but the phrase pitching the storyline----materialist...community service-----would seem to be predictable, that the hardbitten cynic will have an epiphany of humanity.

So, how's he going to handle the humanity part now at this point in his life?
