"It's not a matter of if abortion becomes illegal but when." Teaser from
tonight's news from a antichoice person. Is that really the way we are headed?

1. No.
If they do happen to make abortion illegal they had better legalize marijuana to make up for it damn it!

13. I really wonder where the invasion of a woman's control over her own
body is going to stop?

2. I doubt it, for a simple reason.
It's one of the primary "hooks" that keeps lots of sheep voting Repuke. A bread-and-butter issue for millions of voters. If the 'pukes ever do outlaw abortion, these people will lose their reason for voting and MIGHT just start looking at how the 'pukes have economically screwed them over for decades.

Can't have that. Oh they will chip away at it, get some parental consent laws in place, fetal death notification, etc. but I'm convinced it will never be totally banned.

12. Don't you wish those people would put half the time and effort into
promoting ways and means to prevent unwanted pregnacies and then this issue would be hardly worth discussing.

18. Or adopting, or holding crack babies at the hospital...
If they're so "pro-life" they should be lining up for these duties.

But they don't, because they're only "pro-birth." Once you're out, you're on your own. And don't be asking for welfare to feed your baby, either.

3. Only if they find another wedge issue which works more effectively.
I really doubt they could top that, though. I don't think they'll ever give the pro-life movement what they want, but will string them along for a long time.

5. Particularly good piece in the Nation
about how Mississippi has effectively ended abortion despite Roe V Rade persisting.

http://tinyurl.com/6f5o3

It's a very worthwhile read.

The state of Mississippi has ONE... ONE remaining Abortion provider. In the entire state.

I can't imagine why they have the second highest child poverty rate in the entire country.

I know I'm not supposed to look down on red states, but.....

I don't know why. We should call a spade a spade.

6. Meh, these kinds of statements don't bother me
Total hubris. Just like when Dobson was on This Week after the election talking about how Spectre is " a problem and he must be removed." They're totally overestimating their power, and it'll bring em down eventually.

Seriously, when I comes to these people, I'm not worried at all. You just see the fall coming so clearly.

9. It fuels the fire, and sets the stage
for anti-abortionists to think that if abortion isn't illegalized soon, it's because of a small handful of elitist, activist judges.

Statements like this make the issue more emotionally-charged, and make it harder to actually discuss the issue.

10. I like to ask those people why,
when Republicans control all three branches of government, abortion is still legal?

Could it be that the Republican Party knows that, without this carrot to dangle in front of their idiot supporters, they'd lose elections? Is it possible that the Republican Party needs issues like this in order to get morons to vote themselves into deeper poverty?

11. I grew up as a young woman when it was illegal and women (those
with enough money) still had abortions. I do not think the law will get rid of abortions, it will just make them very, very risky for all involved. Why doesn't anyone ever work on the cause of unwanted pregnanies instead?

14. One argument I've heard that it won't reverse is that then the Supreme
Court would be opening itself up to reverse other decisions that they've made. For that very reason, the commentator felt as if it would not happen. (NPR Morning edition about a week or two ago....)

HAS any other Supreme Court ruling since the 70's been reversed? Before that?

17. Can't answer that question but I am pretty sure things have been
reversed. How about executions? Wasn't that a supreme court reversal?

15. The pro-choice people should act like it will never be overturned
and move the debate. Instead they continually get sucked in to the conversation over Roe v. Wade.

19. Reproductive Rights! It's about Reproductive Choice and Freedom and groups
are starting to attack contraception -- which is where this slippery little slope leads...

There is a group of pharmacists who have actively come out "against" the pill, and are denying women prescriptions that their doctors have given them http://www.prevention.com/article/0,5778,s1-1-93-35-413... (which I talked about in post #54.)

I'm not talking about the "morning after pill" -- I'm talking the normal run-of-the-mill birth control pills.

in wisconsin http://www.wisdems.org/WLN/Mar_Update.htm

and yes morning after pills, too have been targeted:
article on emergency contraception often denied (though -- I have to wonder why the authorities were not brought into the picture since in the first example the woman was raped) http://www.wworld.org/crisis/crisis.asp?ID=455

Before Roe-V-Wade women's rights to things such as sterilization (tubes tied, etc.) were denied. I know this because my mother was RH negative. After she had me, she was sensitized, so the second pregnancy in 1967 was a still-born. (This was before Rogam). She could not handle the pill, it made her ill. Even though she had a 1 in 4 chance in having a live birth, she needed two psychiatrists stating she would be mentally incapacitated if she had another still-born. She refused to be treated as if she were mentally ill, and refused. (She also happened to be an OB nurse -- still is, actually).

My father had no problems getting a vasectomy. In fact, she didn't even have to sign for it. Now we have pharmacists refusing to fill prescriptions for the pill. And in Virginia there is a Representative trying to pass a law that a woman would have to report a miscarriage to the police within 12 hours of having it -- be sure to read the clarifications page...

http://democracyforvirginia.typepad.com/democracy_for_virginia/2005/01/legislative_sen.html

We HAVE to reframe this issue.
