Iraqi Election Coverage

Is it just me, or does the Iraqi Election Coverage by the MSM remind you of the coverage of the fall of Baghdad?

3. Yes, but there the circumstances are different

At least amongst the Shia and Kurds, there seems to have been considerable enthusiasm re: the elections. The MSM reporting on the fall of Baghdad was more of a "we won, and won easy" thing. The elections seem to me to be a different thing in that the MSM seems to be reflecting the optimism of the Iraqis, not the optimism of the U.S. Army.

i was mainly recalling the shots of celebrating Iraqis on loop 24/7 during both occasions, though...

your MSM is quite different from what I consider main stream. i definitely get my news from all those sources, but i think they would be considered the "liberal media" by many, as crazy as that assertion is :crazy:

I don't have any problem with a news source's bias, as long as I can detect it and allow for it. Where I do have a problem is when such sources distort, or ignore facts or other opinions. In my opinion the Newshour, NPR, and the WaPo pass the test.

5. I was surprised at my local paper

Usually, they are down the middle or lean a little progressive on the war. Most every day, they have stories about the casualties, even above the fold.

But today they were like the biggest bushbots. They put a huge color photo with long lines of voters on the front page. All of the stories and jump headlines were Roveian. Not a peep of yesterdays deaths until a story buried in the back.

The coverage sucked, and is going to frame things for at least a couple of months when the drumbeat of soldier deaths overtakes it again.

(PS Even Olbermann today sounded a little CNNish in places, I thought.)
