Ranking Member on National Security Oversight Committee Calls For Federal Grand Jury Investigation and Congressional Hearings

WASHINGTON -- January 31 -- Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich (D-OH), the Ranking Member on the House Government Reform Subcommittee on National Security, Emerging Threats and International Relations, today demanded a broad investigation of the $9 billion in missing reconstruction funds in Iraq, including a criminal investigation and Congressional hearings.

Kucinich will send two letters today calling for a full investigation into the missing $9 billion in funds in Iraq. One letter will be sent to Congressman Christopher Shays (R-CT), Chairman of the House Government Reform Subcommittee on National Security, Emerging Threats and International Relations, requesting an immediate Congressional hearing. The second letter will be sent to United States Attorney General-designate Alberto Gonzales demanding a criminal investigation, including a grand jury, by the United States Department of Justice.

"In view of this Administration's tendency for covert or secret operations, there is no assurance that these funds were not misused for illegal or unauthorized activities," stated Kucinich. "The Administration, the Department of Defense, and Coalition Provisional Authority must be held directly responsible for this staggering lack of accountability of $9 billion. If ever there was a reason for a grand jury to start asking questions of high ranking federal government officials, this is it."

Kucinich's actions followed a report issued yesterday, by the special inspector general (IG) for Iraq, Stuart Bowen Jr., which stated the U.S. occupation authority in Iraq was unable to keep track of nearly $9 billion in funds it transferred to government ministries between October 2003 and June 2004.

"It is simply not believable that the Administration lost track of every dime of the funds. The Administration willfully turned a blind eye and allowed the misuse of funds, and now must be held accountable," continued Kucinich.

1. Do we need to do a Media Blast? & keep doing the Blast until they say
something???

Instead of fighting each other...why not do this and fight the MSM for being propaganda tools.

3. good question
Usually, the MSM talking heads and apologists excuse their miserable behavior by saying that they can't "make the news," and blame it on the Dems for not being more vocal.
So here we have someone who has never been shy about criticizing Bush sinking his teeth into this meaty issue, and not a peep out of the MSM.
So what do we have to do to get some attention to this -- have DK set himself on fire on the floor of Congress?

5. Because the MSM never talk about Kucinich unless it's to
ridicule him.

It's that simple.

7. Because they're too busy yammering about Michael Jackson
Don't watch any coverage of MJ - just turn off your set. Maybe, eventually, the bean counters will realize that if we wanted entertainment news, we'd buy a copy of "People" or watch "Entertainment Tonight."
A synopsis of the MJ trial is called for, but not this 24/7 bullshit.

8. It sounds like we need
to media blast. Support this man, he is one of the very best that we have. If he was dating a supermodel he MIGHT be able to get some press but short of that I doubt anything will be said, it isn't easy for any of our guys to get media attention but Dennis is totally off their page. Go Dennis, I totally love this guy.

11. Excellent ideas! Email the MSM and demand coverage
Write letters to the editor about this and respond to EVERY article on this. The more letters to the editor, the more it will get covered.

Work it, just how we worked it when there was a LOCKDOWN on voter fraud.

WHAT ABOUT KEITH? ;)

20. because that is what they do- ignore Kucinich
because the man speaks the truth....and they can't have that, now can they????

We need to help Dennis and hound our reps & the media.

I have a strong feeling that Dennis is gonna play a big part in blowing apart all the lies. In spite of the ridicule from so many, he has always been a very good and decent man, not pushed around by the prevailing political winds.

More than we can say for many of our current dems.
