1. I hope your friend is up off the Beach
Otherwise, I hope they build on stilts, for when the oceans start to rise.

5. And hurricanes, too....
I helped deliver a boat to La Paz about eight years ago. We left it there for vacation sailing during winter months. The boat never made it back.

Our 3/4 Tonner was knocked off her cradle in La Paz by the fury of hurricane Juliette. For months, the damage was assessed, and finally the insurance company agreed to total the boat. We bought her back for salvage value. We stripped the boat of all her gear, but was then faced with a dilemma. Should he cut the boat up for cold-molded construction souvenirs or look for a local buyer? One consideration was that the yard was going to charge $800 to cut the hull up and dispose of it. It was sold for one peso, sparing us the disposal fee. She'll being reincarnated by locals as the main hull of a trimaran! Recycling at its best.

Why Are These Guys Smiling?

It's because they just bought a gringo's boat for just one peso. Good luck boys.

2. La Paz in Baja California Sur?
La Paz is a beautiful city, very charming. It's changing though, as the gringo invasion of the peninsula continues. More Americans, more tourism, more money-- rarely a good thing IMO. Still, I try to visit the La Paz area every year or two.

3. I have property 75 miles south of La Paz
near San Jose del Cabo, lived there for 4 years straight in the early '90s. It was great till the McDonald's, Howard Johnson's and Ford dealership came. The area is growing like crazy but is still very beautiful, unlike much of Mexico Baja Sur is more expensive than the US due to it's relative isolation to mainland Mexico.

4. I haven't been yet but have
come across info for housing developments...planned type communities there that are catering to Americans. I would be interested myself in finding out more about it.
