3. It's dead, Jim
At least on the national level. Still some to be found in some state governments (but it's under seige), and many local governments.

7. How do we know?
Domestic media is now effectively "State Media" like they used to deride in the old Soviet Union. How do we know anything? The news is fake propaganda, coverage of anything anti-bush is forbidden. We are fed "polls" devised by partisan organizations and commissioned by State Media to legitimize the propaganda. At least some of us can look offshore for real news. But everyone else just goes along in a fantasy world.

11. History never fails.
People fail to realize what they have until they lose it. We have surrendered our freedom to war profiteering corporations and the rich and we will undoubtedly have to fight to get it back. We live in a police state now.

How disappointed I am with my fellow Americans.

Thanks for your service!

9. Our republic is practically dead already. But here's what I believe:
Edited on Tue Feb-01-05 09:05 PM by Stirk
The decline of US power will be the best thing that's ever happened to the average American citizen. Right now we're living in an empire, and empire is bad for everyone but the very few living at the very top of the social scale.

Imperial systems run on oppression: the empire against it's colonies, and the rich against the poor inside the empire itself.

I think the people of this country will be liberated by the collapse of US power. Britain once had a great empire, and now it's gone. But you know, the average Brit seems better off for it.
