LA Times: Depriving Democrats of voters and money is among W.H. policies
"President Bush's agenda for the next four years, much of which he will highlight in his State of the Union address tonight, includes many proposals that would not only change public policy but, the GOP hopes, achieve an ambitious political goal: Stripping money and voters from the Democratic Party and cementing Republican dominance for years after he leaves office."

1. Yep, this is the true motive behind 'tort reform'...
Squeeze the lawyers who give loads of money to Democrats.

2. suprise!
Opened the paper and was actually surprised that I didn't know this after spending so much time on this board.
What's not suprising, of course, is that they are doing this.
Heil W!

3. Naked aggression- disgusting that political offices are
so tied into money that lack of it can keep one party of idealogy out of office.

5. Yeah, duh.
Hasn't anyone figured out that that's the reason behind the fake SS crisis, tort reform, vouchers, the multi-billion-a-day Iraq War, etc.

He's following Grover Norquist's plan detailing how to "defund the left."

6. Bwaaahaahaha
These Republicans are soooo stupid. Imagine the impact on the Democratic Party if corporate and special interest money dries up and they have to rely on the PEOPLE to fund their campaigns. Then they would have to support and fight for the programs that benefit us instead of corporate and special interests. Wow! No more Republican-Lite. At least we'd get a healthy political dialogue going.

Folks, this is why we're going to beat these bastards, because they're really DUMB! They are greedy, impatient, delusional bullies. They want it ALL. They want ALL of the power, ALL of the control, and they want it NOW. Here's just a glimspe of their dumbness: even though they already own the press, they went and gave taxpayer money to fringe journalists to plug their programs. They even planted a fake journalist in the White House Press Corp to ask softball questions. This is beginning to piss off real journalists. If the White House loses control of the press, they are going to lose one of their big advanteges.

7. Well, yeah
He is trying to get rid of social security, shift almost all of the tax burden onto the bottom 98%, and destroy public education entirely.

8. Didn't Learn Much Last Election, Did They
Thank God for hubris, and stupidity.

My understanding was that Kerry raised nearly as much from small donations. Not to mention the Dean revolution on how grassroots campaigns can be funded.

And how does pulling the rug out from under the middle class 'cement Republican dominance'. The only reason they are holding power now is due to the right-wing media echo chamber. And the fact that most of the damage from the GOP greed-based policies have yet to trickle through to effect the voting masses.
