"God's trying to tell them people something".
Said about the tsunami victims by -gulp- my dad.

Dad's a great guy, but the comment literally made me sick.

I asked him, how would you feel if mom stepped outside and got creamed by a drunk driver, and someone said to you, "God's trying to tell her something"?

Didn't get a response but I hope he really thought about how asinine his comment was.

Sadly, I think most americans feel the same way, even if they won't admit it or say it.

Superiority is a mental illness just as much as inferiority is.

1. Maybe, it wasn't God. Maybe it was the Uber-Freeper known as Satan

2. I don't
I feel for those who lost their lives, but moreso for those left behind, especially those orphaned and injured. We are all one family, all one Being, and what effects one effects us all. The sooner we realize this, the better off the entire world will be.

But don't harbor anger at your father for such remarks. Forgive him his misperception and go on. The most important thing is to find and maintain peace within your own heart.

3. I hear shit like that all the time.
My cousin once said "the reason those people have so many wars over there is because they haven't accepted Christ."

Sheesh.

4. And what was God trying to tell
all those Republicans in Florida when they got slammed by 3-or was it 4-hurricanes one right after another?

5. Well, since we live in Maryland, I guess God was trying to tell them
people in Florida something too. Doesn't matter where it happens or who it happens too, as long as it didn't happen to you then God was trying to tell "those people" something.

On the other hand, I guess if it happens to you, then it was that bad ole Satan.

6. I heard something just as asinine from my parents
The other night, we were watching the news. A story appeared about Abu Gharib and which Military Police soldier was going on trial next. My parents (who I love but are horribly misguided about what is really going on) said "I don't see what the big deal is - the only problem is that the military got caught! Why did they take pictures, anyway?"

My response was "So it is OK to torture and kill people as long as you don't get caught? Why didn't you say so sooner - I have a few people I'd like to get rid of."

Nothing but silence.

7. Bigoted hate speech is best done ungrammatically
Give the old guy a pat on the back.

How the fuck do these people pretend to understand exactly how the universe works? That's my biggest beef with religion: the cocksure certainty that its believers completely understand the entire cosmos so thoroughly that incriminations can be slung around like so much wet pasta. While you're at it, tell him how to form a sentence that isn't stereotypic of bumpkin idiocy.

He may be a "fine fellow" in other ways, but this is an ugly statement. Why would anyone sneer at the pain of thousands of others just to buttress his own prejudices and childish guess? There are a few reasons, but they're all disgusting.

Scream in his face; he needs it.

8. I hear what you're saying, but the thing is, but for that comment, if
you knew my dad, you would think he's one of the greatest people you have ever known. That's what gets me about it. The ignorance I can understand. But to me, and I'm probably more than a tad bit sensitive than the average person, this kind of thinking is the grease and butter which prepares the way for war and destruction.

The people who think this way just don't see the connection at all between this kind of stupid thinking, and stupid doing, as in invading another people who haven't threatened us at all.
