He rose from his cloister and sat...
Edited on Wed Feb-02-05 08:43 PM by Tom Yossarian Joad
Darkened halls and shadows of minions melded with the walls.

The silent hum of the machinery played backdrop to silence. Drops of water ricocheted sounds off of skulls and bones in the walls. On the floors.

He coughed and a hunched creature wiped the spittle and blood from his chin.

"Now, sir?"

Silence.

The machine hummed more loudly becoming almost perceptible as light in the forward hall became prescient. He adjusted his tie.

The things in attendance backed up in a collective fear. Anticipation like libido shot through bodies. He spoke.

"Water." Hoary and moist.

The light slowly rose. Expensive suit, well shined shoes and the chemical smell of dry cleaning hid nothing and everything at the same time. A glass of liquid thrust forward, the body attached unseen. He drank deeply.

The minions bowed as he rose. Silence became a noise. The first step was silent but shattered the place like thunder... Another step and yet another As he stepped toward the light.

A strange gait for a little man with all the power of mankind at his fingers. If someone listened, they could hear bronchial tubes coated in mucous fighting for air in his lungs. Another step.

He passed the light with disdain for it and approached the dais. Looking down as if the floor was his enemy, he became intimate with the dais like a lover.

Hands grasped the edges, he looked toward the teleprompter...

"My fellow Americans..."

So began the end of the world.

Enjoy the speech!
