did anyone else get the sinking feeling we will be losing more seats in 06? The Dems just CANNOT seem to get a good coherent message....I am worried now... Bush actually sounded better than normal. He just promised lots of empty platitudes that will make the sheeple feel good...and his popularity is rising again..

It was at yet another record low before then. It's too early to start worrying about '06, especially when most of the candidates aren't known yet and so much of the agenda is up in the air.

The Democratic caucus should develop a bill to answer thge presidnet on social security. Call it a "Dem fix bill". They should then take it to the Republ;ican caucus and say "how can we make this agreeable to both sides?" Then they can take it to Bush. The problem is that we just seem to say "no" all of the time and never make our own proposals or counter-proposals.

it is not the Dem message. It is the American people. They are chosing to go the way of other facist states that have cropped up all throughout history, and don't want to hear about compassion, tolerance or justice anymore. They want to hear the Republican message of aggression, power and wealth. Americans take pride in knowing they're kicking Arab ass, but they want it worded as, 'spreading freedom' because that sounds better. The Dems just can't polish a turd the way the 'pubs can, and most Americans are either too apathetic or they're grasping for that big, fat, stinking, luminous turd.

I keep hearing that we need to frame our message better in order to convince Bush voters to cross over. But really, how many different ways do you have to frame something before you start to think, maybe it's not that we aren't framing it correctly. Maybe it's that the people we're trying to reach simply don't want to see things the way we do. I believe in equal marriage/civil union rights for everyone. The Republicans could try to frame that issue a million different ways to reach out to me, but they're never going to change my mind. I bet there are plenty of people on the other side of the issue that feel as strongly. I'm not saying the Dems should give up, but maybe they should start trying to attract non-voters instead of just aiming to bring Bush voters over to their side.

24. I'm kinda torn here.

For the first time I was reminded of Clinton in a good way. Usually it's because I remember Clinton's SOTU's and Bush's are so lacking by comparison.

This was the first one where I felt he sounded sensible and reasonable. That's bad. Clinton's best attribute in this situation was how reasonable and agreeable everything he said sounded.

Bush sounded very reasonable...if I didn't know what I know, he sounded positively moderate and completely willing to work with people towards sensible solutions.

Well, except that whole marriage amendment thing, the encouraging Iran to open revolt, and threatening Syria with a WMD club.
