As I See It, There's Only One Way To Win: A New Summer of Love
Yep, that's it.

We need a new Summer of Love...and everything that goes with it: fornicating college kids, getting high, standing up to the authoritarian side of our society - including the military - wife swapping, really bad clothing and lots of protest songs (even the embarrassing ones) and marches.

The RW coalition is desperate to take us back to the 50s...the 1850s! We need a significant gesture like the Summer of Love, a gesture that says we're throwing off the strictures of religious and racial bigotry, of bowing to "the man," of thinking that a degree from a business school is the ultimate sign of success. We need to freak 'em out, get 'em off their steamrolling game plan.

Who's with me? (suddenly feeling like Bluto Blutarsky rallying the Animal House crew...)

4. we did everybody back then
and now doing anybody is almost mortal combat.
our apathy led us here guys, and it is my shame. after we pulled out of vietnam we lost our focus and branched out, doing good things for sure, but when we really held power our fuse went out. i still fight for the greater good, but mostly feel so damn powerless.

It wouldn't work.

12. The Flower power thing was fine
but I missed it by just a hair and it had become
commercialized and then satirized but persisted in pleasant
out-of-way places for awhile. A lot of it was integrated into the wider culture.

I got into the SDS political aspect of the times later and we were simply frustrated by so many of the bellbottomed druggies because they were so into their own heads they were largely of no help to the antiwar anticapitalist Movement unless we could somehow get enough of them in one place at one time!

9. Just shoot me. Okay. "Summer of Love" , my blank.
Sandra Dee and some what's his name hunk? You've got to be kidding, or really uninformed. I believe you may be thinking along the lines of Haight-Ashbury, San Francisco and the "Summer of Love". "Hippie Times".

11. Not all countercultures have to be alike
The last one was based on sex, drugs, and rock'n'roll -- all the more reason to do it differently next time.

I for one could do with a little more romance. Chivalry. Embrace of lost causes. Acts of insane altruism.

Americans have been raised to believe that the greatest commandments are looking out for #1 and covering your ass. Anything that goes against that is a way of defying the system. Free software today is as radical as free love was 40 years ago.

The Republicans have endorsed a culture of taking. Let's counter it with a culture of giving.
