5. funny you should ask!
just got this in my mail today from news dissector and there is much more at the site complaining about the direction move on is moving in. please check it out: http://www.newsdissector.org/blog/2005/02/02/#1026

TIME FOR MOVEON TO MOVE ON?

Attention MoveOn members.

I am real disappointed to report that the organization whose membership TRIPLED because of opposition to the War and the Bush Administration doesn't have the inclination or energy to help us promote our film screenings of WMD on the media and the war when it opens this Friday in Manhattan, Buffalo and Portland.

When you Google MoveOn, you read that the organization "offers information on the anti-war movement and resources for activists." When you go to the website, you see information about several causes, but we were told that they won't help WMD because it doesn't fit into any of their campaigns. That's after the Iraq elections and in the week of the State of the Union.

Apparently, only explicitly partisan projects meet their criteria. I don't get it. Yesterday on Buzzflash, political organizer Carolyn Kay of Makethemaccountable.com asked why MoveOn pumps millions of dollars raised by its members into ads in the mainstream media and puts only a few sheckels, from time to time, into independent and alternative media outlets. She accuses them of reinforcing the mainstream media system, not changing it.

6. Sound like a right-wing
demolition assignment. The mainstream media is the venue to inform citizens who are not as savvy as we who seek out the alternative media outlets. We already have a grasp on the issues....I think now that they have grown, evolved into the dynamic anti-*bush organization, they can afford to dispense information to the less viewed outlets that will serve our needs.

I'm so grateful for Move-On......they have my accolades.

8. Funding documentaries isn't their mission.
It's nice that MoveOn funded the movie Outfoxed, but that doesn't mean they have to fund every liberal documentary.

12. Exactly.......
They need to target their actions....not apease the masses to look balanced....thats not the goal. The mainstream media has the audience, Move-On has the message.

11. I unsubscribed from their mailings.
And then they started "SPAMMING" me, begging for money.
I sent them an email informing them that I desired no more communications from them, and I would report them to their ISP if I got one more slice of SPAM from them.

That worked.

Saw plenty of Moveon stuff running up to Selection II, but nothing since. Don't ask me for money if you're not spending it where I live.

Fuck politics anyway, the fix is in, the Fascists own it all now.

13. Maybe you are just feeling defeated today.
Let me say this....your commitment, time, money and passion has been so very appreciated. The battle is not over, no one said it would be a cake walk for liberals. We are born running up hill.

And if the Chimpster isn't enough to make me wanna stick my head in the oven, there's always Evan Bayh and Jowly Joe. and maybe Hillary and Nancy, too.

I got more important shit to worry about than paying Eli's salary, like how to live in this gawd-forsaken country in a cardboard box on a diet of cat food.

Celebrate the victories!

22. Most? even Evan?
Great, the LTTE columns in the papers I read will have mysterious "instant" letters ha-rumphing like the Rice vote:

"Who does Evan Bayh think he *IS*? A DEMOCRAT????"
and
"Bayh had better think about who Indiana voted for for President..."
and
"Bayh would do well to remember Tom Daschle..."

Yeah, "most Dems" voted against Torquemada, but guess what? He still was confirmed....

17. Thanks for the reminder. I couldn't donate as much as you
because Social Security is most of my income, however, I know how necessary it is to working class seniors like myself. I don't want to see later generations robbed of it.

21. I have to agree, need to boycot ads on msm
If they are creative they can find as effective mediums and make the statement against msm too.

What about a MAJOR Billboard campaign with links for people to learn more? Of course many billboards are owned by that nasty radio conglomerate, but at least they allow, even encourage, liberal programming as long as it makes them money.

Even better, how about investing in new infrastructure, buy the billboards and keep the ads up all year long?

23. in all honesty i dont find their ads
creative or hard hitting. they arent good. the conservatives know how to make an ad. and the guys over at op truth made a wonderful ad. of course many of the stations didnt want to run it because it was that powerful. it was the one with the soldier who lost a limb.

but the ads that i have seen in NY that move on made have been boring and not hard hitting. perhaps they need a new ad agency. i dont know. but i think they are just as deserving of a donation as other liberal organiztions.

if you can afford 50 bucks thats great. but remember places like optruth.org.

there are just days when my email box is filled with so many hands out asking for money that i have to really think hard before i give. i too am on a fixed income.

giving to DU was a choice i took very seriously. i just cant move on that seriously. sorry. JMO.
