1. We get screwed
Plain and simple.
I wish I knew more details too. I am 48 and my wife is 45.

6. They are getting screwed. Got an extra room in your house?
I hope that Bush's reforms allow you to make a killing in the market, cause it is SS that allows parents to live independtly and lifts the burden of aging parents from the next generation.

2. Since Bush didn't say their benefits were sacrosanct, under 55 are screwed
We entered the workforce just in time to get the SS payroll tax increases in the eighties, and will leave just in time for the great Bushie revolution to screw us.

Bush sees the only proper course is to try to screw everyone, and Our reward for not trying to screw everyone twenty years ago is getting it in the chops.

5. Screwed, blued & tattooed.
The younger ones might benefit--but serious study of the plan indicates they really won't.

And there's no guarantee the older ones will really off unscathed, either.

7. If He Gets His Way, Unlikely, You Would Be Screwed...
There are many ways..See Atrios's "Benefit Offset" discussion. http://atrios.blogspot.com/. Bush detailed a lot of horrible plans and linked them to democrats...Clinton-raise retirement age, Penny-index benefits to cost of living not wages, Breaux-discourage early retirement probably with lower early benefits...Take the money you earn on your private account and use it to offset the cost of Social Security. Force you to buy an annuity and if you die, you lose it all...And they never mention disability benefits for those under 65 or survivor and dependents benefits for people who die with spouses and children under 18. They say, oh never mind that, we'll take care of that later...Huh!

This plan is so deeply flawed and so deeply dishonest it almost defies description. We are living in a bizarre world of lies and dishonesty. The republicans can't be honest about anything or the people would throw them out on their ears so they invent more and more lies to cover their plans.

They want to destroy Social Security...there's no two ways about it...

8. I wonder, too
I'm 51 with a disabled child--I honestly feel like I've stepped through the looking glass. What's stranger is that my husband's meager paychecks will continue to be docked in a big way to pay for people who were fortunate enough to pay the way for people like my father and his girlfriend, who have more money than they could ever spend.

:wtf:

9. Yeah, I turned 53 last November
I've been paying into the system since 1970. I, for one, will not let Dumbass get away with this!! He's up for the fight of his life! Write all the Congress critters you know of, and let them know in no uncertain terms that a vote for this bull$h!t means a vote against their continued career next election. Also, join Gray Panthers: www.graypanthers.org. People of all ages are welcome.
