Total Information Awareness and blacklisting of citizens. What's up here?
I was reading about the situation in North Dakota where Democracy for America members/Progressive citizens were denied access to a Bush event. Where did such a list come from and who is creating such a list?

Is it the same list as the "no-fly" list?

Who is on the list(s)?

How is such a list legal, and what can be done about such privately accumulated black listing?

I found a post which is included below, referring to the Total Information Awareness program. I thought the program was disbanned a while back after it received so much negative attention and scrutiny. Apparently not.

Does anyone have information on the current status of the agency and its new name? There was also a Neighborhood watch program that was intiated in Florida which I haven't heard about in a while. It may have been started under the Total Information Awareness program as well.

From the post:

<< The TIA (Total Information Awareness)(under a different name now) Central Database will become a powerful tool of the Compassionate Conservatives. This will be used to do so much more than just block you from attending a bush* event.

Wonder why you aren't getting promoted within the Corporation like your Republican co-workers?

Denied admission to a Graduate Program?

Denied that Pell Grant?

audited by IRS?

legitimate lawsuit thrown out of court?

zoning permit denied?

business license denied?

bank loan denied?

traveling blocked?

passport problems?

police harrassment?>>

Accumulating names and the creation of such a list is a clear violation of our Constitutional rights and Civil Liberties.

If someone and/or a group of someones we don't know, is tracking our daily activities which is privately being used against us, our rights along with laws are being violated and broken.

Situations like this show why we have the First, Fourth and Fifth Amendment.

For the record, here are such Amendments:

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Amendment IV

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

Amendment V

No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.

2. Kick!
:kick:

Some of the barred DFA members should buy plane tix and see if they are barred from flying.

This is outrageous. I'm sure I'd be on the list. I just spoke to a DFA meeting last night on the need for media reform.

We have to get help from our Congressional members on this. We need legislation to make these practices flatly illegal and punishable by a very hefty penalty.

9. It starts with good Dems like you LB.
Thank you for posting and good for you on speaking about the much needed Media Reform at the DFA meeting.

We were talking about the Fairness Doctrine last night at ours.

Seems that media reform and election reform are at the root of every issue we are dealing with these days.

3. Forget the fourth amendment
The war on drugs and the unconstitutional forefeiture laws already took care of that one. You can be deprived of your property and it can be sold at auction even if you have never been arrested or charged with a crime, let alone convicted of one. Your property can be confiscated on the mere suspicion that it may have been used to transport drugs, house drugs, or be used to pay for drugs in the future.

You can sue to get it back, but you have to post a hefty bond to do so, and there's no guarantee the suit will go forward before your property is sold.

It's been a real windfall for a lot of police departments.

12. It's important to shed light on the Total Information Awareness program.
And any programs stemming from it.

7. Didn't you get the memo?
We no longer have constitutional rights. The amendments mean zip in Bush's Brave New World.

10. We have as many rights as we protect and defend my friend.
They are ours to keep and/or lose. No question we are in the eleventh hour.

Democracy demands our participation and our refusal to accept unacceptable governorship.

We are either going to figure it out, or we are going to pay for not figuring it out.

14. Funny how I've seen NO
mention of chimp's blacklists in the corporate media. I really don't follow it much anymore, but what I've seen and heard has not said one word about this. Has anyone else seen anything about this outside of this forum?
