See report:

Does anyone think this is strange? Although obviously the vote was still good to see.

6. We should check the names: maybe the same people
who voted for Ashcroft voted for Gonzales? It might be a coincidence but there is the same 8 vote difference (Ashcroft: 42 dems out of 50; Gonzales: 36 dems out of 44)

5. Part of this may be the result of...
... the fact that Ashcroft was disliked in the Senate almost as much as he was by the Missouri voters that put him second to a dead guy. I recall reading that Ashcroft prevailed largely on courtesy votes--because he was a former member of the Senate, he was given a pass.

I do hope that the people who voted for Gonzales, however, get an opportunity to feel his spikes on their backs, because Gonzales is going to run right over Congress.
