SOTU Boos/Nos to SS Lies - Why Is the media NOT covering this NOR stating
Edited on Fri Feb-04-05 12:09 AM by bpilgrim
the recent Congressional Budget Office report that says bush is LYING!?

A conflicting Congressional Budget Office report released last June, using more realistic predictions, said that surpluses would persist until 2052, and in 75 years the financial trouble it would incur would be about half of what the Trustees predict. Further, when compared with the current federal debt (forty percent of GDP) amassed under Bush or the current foreign debt (five percent of GDP) propelled by "free trade" and outsourcing policies, the Social Security’s financial shortfall – 75 years from now – would account for an easily manageable 0.4 percent of the entire economy. The cost of Bush’s tax cuts alone over the same period of time, according to Dean Baker and Mark Weisbrot of the Center for Economic and Policy Research, will be about three times that amount.

By Mark Weisbrot and Dean Baker

Six years ago the New York Times' Fred Brock wrote that "so-called Social Security reform is looking more and more like a solution in search of a problem." How true it was then, and even truer today. The latest (June 2004) estimate from the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office projects that Social Security can pay all promised benefits, with no changes at all, until 2052. That's nearly half a century.

1. CNN mentioned the boos...
they showed the boos too, and discussed the soc sec debate.

Then they went back to whoring for BushCo.

I guess we take our few seconds of truth when we get em, right?

2. thats what i mean...
it was mentioned in passing on npr, too... but it didn't derail the fawning of the commentators over the so-called 'powerful' speech

they got all caught up in the FEELINGs

and here i thought pukes weren't into the touchy-feely stuff

but the medias REFUSAL to deal with REALITY is maddening at times :argh:

3. I hear ya...
...like you said, the media won't deal with reality. It's very frustrating.

To add insult to injury--I listened to Limbaugh today and he droned on about "the liberal media" and how they just don't get it. He's still touting the moronic notion that the media is "liberal."

Oh please.

I guess anything short of the media reading Republican-authored copy--is "liberal" to rightwingnutjobs like Rush.
