My poor misguided B*sh- voting Boss....
Edited on Fri Feb-04-05 02:16 PM by Viva_La_Revolution
He just found out that they are trying to franchise the contracts for waste haulers here in Portland. (We are a small recycling plant, our primary customer is his best friends company, he's a waste hauler. They both voted Repug... said some damn thing about "we're a tax based business" before the election.)

I just looked at him and said "might as well say WasteManagement Takeover, huh?

Now he looks worried...

I just cannot find the cruelty in my heart to walk in there and explain to him how voting for the Chimp was also a vote for these multimillion dollar corporate thugs to come in here and put him out of business.

I'm going to use my lunch hour to research Waste Management (aka Recycle America). I wonder who they contribute $ too, and I hear they are the WalMart of Garbage co's.....

1. I'd suggest letting him stabilize a little. He could be VERY shaken up.
But at some time, you might be able to sense when he's open to some discussion/enlightenment. Since you've already noted that you find it difficult to summon up the cruelty to set him straight, you already prove yourself to be a sensitive, sympathetic type. You probably wouldn't be the bloodthirsty type to stick it in and twist it and cover it with "I told you so's." Use your sensitivity. Make it work a little more for you. Sounds like it's pretty finely-tuned anyway. But at some point, he might be ripe for a little taste of new thinking.

BTW, please disregard the sig line. Unfortunately, the 800 number mentioned in it is no longer in operation, dammit.

3. that's the plan!
I've already been working on his 21 year old son who also works here. He made a comment the other day about the dollar dropping, so I printed out the article written for the Wall Street Journal by one of Reagans economic advisors....it also had a few paragraphs about the 'myth' of the liberal media... he's starting to shake off the effects of the Kool aid!

5. Waste Management was the first corp to really engage in....

...a binge of aquisitions that were all debt-driven. They bought most of the local garbage haulers in the country, and that resulted in explosive growth of their stock; Wall Street likes healthy expansion numbers.

The problem came in when their debt couldn't be serviced by the revenues from their buying frenzy. Same thing happened with Enron, but the Enron fiasco was much worse, because they were actively defrauding a market that they had deregulated by buying elected representatives. So, fraud coupled with fake explosive growth = compassionate conservatism.

6. You should look
for local politicians who support the effort to privatize garbage hauling. Let them know specifically who is NOT representing them. Let him know that ownership society doesn't mean citizens own anything. Corporations ARE the ownership society. But in a nice way.

Dear friends,

Before we go running naked into the woods, please visit http://www.swampfoxnews.com .

At the bottom, under the "POLITICS" banner, you will see a surprising piece of news from the state Dem party chair.

You will be able to hear his actual words through streaming audio. You may hate the editorial policy of the news site, but you will hear some important truth from our leader.

Thanx,

A very conservative Dem.

8. It's exactly like real farmers not realizing they voted for takeovers
by Archer-Daniels-Midland and Monsanto.
